Bugatti's "Veyron 16.4" lays claim to being the fastest carin the world. The car has a maximum speed of 406 km/hand goes from 0 to 300 in under 14 seconds. Experts say thatit has reached the limits of what is structurally possible.

RENAULT - Futuristic "Jewels"
Renault is decked out in its finest "jewels" for the Tokyo MotorShow. The most glittering is, without a doubt, the "Be Bop" concept car.It is on display in two varieties, an SUV type and a "Renault Sports"type. Both give a glimpse into the cars of the future.

The SUV version is a fully-equipped 4WD off-road vehicle. Thesports version uses Renault's F-1 technology to build a sporty compactMPV with a 2 liter, 225 horsepower gasoline turbocharged engine. Oneof the design concepts for this car was to make efficient use of theinterior spaces, and you can see this in the unique seating arrangements. The body styling focuses on aerodynamics; the innovative "waterdroplet" motif can be seen clearly in the windows.

The commercial model was named the 2003 European Car of theYear and is scheduled for launch in Japan next year. Other highlightsinclude the "Megane 2.0 Premium," "Megane Coupe-Cabriolet," and "R23"F-1 machine.

VOLKSWAGEN - Emphasizing "Brand Evolution" and targeting higher sales on the Japanese market
Volkswagen (VW) already commands the top share of import car sales in Japan, and it brought a full line-up of its vehicles to the Tokyo Motor Show. Flanking the front of the VW corner are the "Concept R" concept car and the new "Golf" scheduled for announcement next year. Also at the booth are VW's newly-developed minivans, "Touran" and "Multivan," and two models that just made their debut on the Japanese market this year, the "New Beetle Cabriolet" and the "Touareg" SUV. VW has its sights on increasing its sales on the Japanese market and is emphasizing its "Brand Evolution" in this year's exhibit.

The "Concept R" is VW's sports car, and it does indeed embody the idea of "brand evolution." Chairman Pischetsrieder describes it as having "a tight form with new, sharp lines." Underneath the dynamic body are a V6 3.2 liter, 265 horsepower engine and a 6 speed direct shift gearbox. The car has a theoretical maximum speed of 270 km/h.

The new fifth generation "Golf" was just announced in VW's home market of Germany, its first full model change in six years. The body size has been expanded to increase passenger comfort. VW has made the car "fun to drive" (Chairman Pischetsrieder) while also improving safety. The result is very attractive indeed. The "Touran" is based on the new "Golf," offering multipurpose specs with either two or three rows of seats.

The "Continental GT" will debut next spring and combines Bentley's tradition and reputation as a British luxury carmaker with its convincing performance at Le Mans. The company describes it as "the ultimate British sporting grand tourer," delivering "unparalleled levels of refinement, craftsmanship and driver involvement."

Its W12 6.0 liter, twin turbo engine packs a walloping 560 horsepower. As a full-time four-wheel drive, this four-seater coupe is fully prepared to become the "image leader model" that symbolizes the "evolution" taking place at Bentley.

CITROEN - Stylish and fashionable throughout
In prime position at the front of the Citroen booth is the "CAirdream," a concept version of a future 2 + 2 coupe. Also on display are the "C3 Pluriel" and the "C2," both scheduled for launch on the Japanese market next year. The atmosphere is stylish and fashionable throughout.

The "C-Airdream" debuted at the 2002 Paris Salon. It features a slick, large coupe body that was designed for aerodynamic performance and achieves a CD of 0.28. The car uses a V6 3 liter engine, but its biggest innovation is the "drive by wire" electronic control technology that it brings all of the operational controls, including steering, throttle, brakes, and shifting to the steering wheel.

The "C3 Pluriel" reference exhibit features a removable roof arrangement and that allows for a number of different body types in this uniquely structured and eminently fun car.

BMW / MINI - Full Lineup Emphasizes Brand Strategy
BMW has a full lineup on display in its passenger car booth, including the "645Ci." This new coupe represents a return for the first time in 14 years to the company's legendary "6 Series" and is squarely in the line of large BMW luxury coupes. As a special exhibit, BMW has brought the "WilliamsF1 FW25," one of the strongest contenders in the 2003 F-1 Grand Prix. The Mini corner rounds out this exciting exhibition.

The "645Ci" is a new design based on the 7 Series. Towards the front of the booth are the new "X3 3.0i" reference exhibit and the new "X5 4.4i" market model, both dynamic "sports activity vehicles" that emphasize BMW's "premium brand strategy."

ALPINA - Originality and Pride
"Alpina" is BMW's line for "discriminating drivers." For the Tokyo Motor Show, the company has brought its new "B7" series and "Roadster S." The flagship is the "B7 Supercharge." The "B7" version name itself stands for "charged engines," and this model uses a radial compressor to charge the "Valvetronic." This is the first time the company has used the systme. The V8, 4.4 liter, 500 horsepower engine makes this a high-performance limousine.

ROLLS-ROYCE - Just one Vehicle is Enough to Achieve Presence
The Rolls-Royce booth is located in the Center Hall, and the "Rolls-Royce PHANTOM" on display gives it a striking presence. The car was first launched in January and started to sell in Japan from November. The aluminum space frame reduces weight and improves rigidity, while the V12, 6.75 liter engine delivers 460 horsepower. The engine's high torque in the low-revolution range gives it the quietness and acceleration required by luxury vehicles. Meanwhile, the interior features specially-dyed leather made from exclisivery-raised bulls, and the rearhinged coach doors add to the elegance and refinement. But what really elicits the gasps from visitors is the \42.32 million price tag (two-tone color, two-passenger rear seat specification).

PEUGEOT - Concept cars embody "dynamism and elegance"
Peugeot enjoys a high reputation on the Japanese market for its unique Coupe-Cabriolet (CC). This year, the "307CC," the successor to the "206CC," is making its Japan premiere at the Tokyo Motor Show. The rear seat of this four-seater is designed to fit two adults comfortably. The car is scheduled to make its market debut next spring as the "image leader version" of the "307 Series."

Want to go even higher than the "206 Series" or "307 Series" Try the "607 Sport," Peugeot's top-of-the-line sedan, which is also on display. Another popular car with visitors is the "206 WRC" designed for WRC use. Likewise, the "407 Elixir" is an eye catcher.

All of the models on display provide a glimpse into Peugeot's future design motifs. They feature a subtle combination of dynamism and elegance, and these new sensibilities can clearly be seen in, for example, the coupe-like three-door station wagon that eliminates partitions and parcel shelves to create a one-room feel.

PORSCHE - Two Styles of Overwhelming Performance
Porsche is the epitome of the high-performance sports car, and its booth emphasizes this fact in two different settings, one around the "Carrera GT" image, the other around the new "Cayenne" model range. It is hard to say which is more impressive. The "Carrera GT" is at the front of the booth. Its carbon fiber-reinforced monocock body and subframe exude the "Porsche racing car" image. The V10, 5.7 liter engine has overwhelming performance, producing 612 horsepower and is capable of speeds up to 330km/h. The company plans to launch it in Japan soon. The "Cayenne" is Porsche's new SUV that was launched last year and features the company's first V6, 3.2 liter engine.
The "Carrera GT" will be coming to the Japanese market soon.
FORD - A Century of Automaking and a Passion for Sports
The Ford group's joint exhibit occupies about two-thirds of the south side of the Center Hall. It shows six brands, including Mazda, in this display of group power.

Ford itself is in the center, and it immediately attracts the eye with the "Ford GT," produced to commemorate a century of automaking. Beginning in 1966, the Ford GT recorded an incredible four-year winning streak at Le Mans, and that legendary machine has come back to life, retaining its classical design but updated to create a practical, modern road car. With a V8 5.4 liter supercharged engine on the midship, this high-performance super car produces 500 horsepower.

Another not-to-be-missed vehicle at the Ford booth is the "Fiesta RS Rallye," which is sure to delight WRC fans. This is a wider, lower, and more aggressively styled version of the new "Fiesta."
"Ford GT," the inheritant of glorious legend, soon to be launched.
VOLVO - Concept Cars with Advanced Safety and Environment Functions
The Volvo booth focuses on safety, using cutaway models to demonstrate the rigidity of its bodies. Visitors are drawn to the "Volvo S40," a new model that debuted at the Frankfurt Motor Show and features an Intelligent Driver Information System (IDIS). IDIS uses a computer to determine driving conditions and take appropriate measures to enhance safety.

The "Versatility Concept Car" (VCC) in the center of the booth represents Volvo's take on the future of high-class estates. The goal for the designers was to create a "smart luxury car," and they came up with a vehicle that has an in-line six-cylinder, 2.6 liter, 250 horsepower engine but still gets 15.4 km to the liter. It even carries an air cleaner system that absorbs HC and NOx emitted by other vehicles.

JAGUAR - F-1-based Luxury Saloon
The wall of the Jaguar booth is adorned with the "R4" F-1 machine in "British racing green," but the star is the new "XJR," the latest in the "XJ" series that features aluminum monocoque bodies. It boasts sportiness with elegance.

The Jaguar "XJ" is popular in Japan as a luxury saloon, and the sports model sets itself apart with its mesh front grill, not to mention its enhanced air suspension and brake systems that will allow drivers to enjoy sports car driving even more.

LAND ROVER - New Models Make an Impression
Land Rover is one of the main players in the off-road genre, and it brings six vehicles to the Tokyo Motor Show, including the new "Freelander HSE." The booth is stately and elegant. The "Freelander HSE" has a Range Rover look to the front grill, but with a more modern image. The twin pocket headlamps enhance functionality as well.

ASTON MARTIN - New Models for a New Age
The "DB9," a fluidly styled coupe with an understated body color, stands out in the Aston Martin booth. The car features an aluminum bonded frame and a V12, 6 liter engine capable of speeds up to 300 km/h. Continuing where the "DB7" left off, this newly debuted model heralds a new age of craftsmanship and innovation for the company. The "DB9" seems destined to lead the 2+2 sports car segment.
