Audi TT Coupé 1.8T quattro
The Audi TT Coupé will be introduced to the Japanese market at the Tokyo Motor Show. Launched last year in the European market, the TT Coupé was soon the center of much attention in the sports car category. The prototype was shown at the 1995 Frankfurt Motor Show, and now three years later, production of the TT Coupé series is underway. The compact and dynamic styling fully utilizing sharp, clear-cut body lines shows Audi's distinctive design characteristics to the fullest. Comparisons to the prototype make obvious the TT Coupé design updates and performance improvements. The 1.8-liter inline 4-cylinder turbo-charged engine with five valves per cykinder is capable of delivering a maximum output of 225ps at 5900 rpm. Maximum torque of 28.5 kgm can be consistently attained with engine revolutions ranging from 2200 to 5500 rpm, and a top speed as high as 243km/h is reachable. The newly designed proprietary quattro drive allows the Audi TT Coupé to accelerate from 0 to 100km/h in jusy 6.4 seconds. This quattro system employs a Haldex hydro-electronic control device closely linked to the ABS (Antilock Braking System) and other electronic devices to distribute optimum driving power to the front and rear wheels. The Audi TT Coupé quattro also features a sports chassis employing McPherson strut suspension for the front axle and a double wishbone suspension for the rear axle for maximum driving dynamics and enhanced safety.
Audi TT roadster 1.8T quattro (for exhibit only)
This summer saw Audi adding a refreshing touch of open-air sports driving enjoyment to its TT range with the Audi TT Roadster. Developed along with the TT Coupé the TT Roadster was a sensation at the Tokyo Motor Show in 1995. Audi was faithful to the original concept and can now fully satisfy the many eager motorists who were waiting for commercial production. Using the same power train as in the TT Coupé this 2-seater model measuring 4.04m long, 1.76m wide and 1.34m high delivers pure motoring pleasure that easily lives up to all the expectations of discerning enthusiasts. To complement its extraordinary performance, the Audi TT Roadster boasts comprehensive safety features. Functional roll-bars rather than just design elements form a survival zone with the rigid window screen frames in case of collision. These structures fully integrate with the body structure and the A-pillars incorporate a high-strength steel tube-in-tube system. Driver and front-seat passenger full-size airbags as well as head-and-thorax side airbags housed in the seatbacks further protect occupants. Turning to creature comforts, the interior is in keeping with the Audi TT concept featuring specially designed equipment for the Roadster. Noteworthy is the genuine leather interior with all its sensual characteristics. Even at the prototype stage, the interior drew considerable attention.
Audi A3 1.8 (4-door)
The Audi A3 premium compact car has served as a core model for Audi since ita launch. In 1996, this model was selected as the 101st "Statement of Design" to be added to the London Design Museum's Butler's Wharf Collection, and went on to garner many prestigious design awards, including Germany's 1998 Federal Award for Product Design, the "iF Seal of Approval" for outstanding design presented by the iF Forum Design Hanover Award, as well as the 1997 Best Design Quality Award from North Rhine-Westphalia's Design Center - testaments to the Audi A3's extraordinary character. To the Audi A3 family this spring came the 4-door Audi A3 model which maintains the A3's attractive design, dynamic styling and high standards, and promises to assume the leading position in its class. The new 4-door Audi A3 model combines a laterally-positioned inline 4-cylinder DOHC engine with five valves per cylinder featuring a variable air intake system and variable camshaft control with a front-wheel drive 4-speed automatic transmission. Although not on display, the 2-door Audi A3 1.8T quattro also offers sporty driving enjoyment by integrating the quattro system with a turbo-charged engine as in the Audi TT. Thanks to the addition of this hot version, quattro models are now available on Audi lines from the A3 all the way up to A8.
Audi S4
A synergistic combination of traditional automotive craftsmanship and innovative technology, the Audi S4 is an elegant overachiever with its powerful combination of Audi proprietary quattro permanent 4-wheel drive system and the latest high-performance Biturbo engine. The origin of the proud "S4" emblem of the Audi S4 goes back to the first quattro model, the "Audi Sport quattro S1" which caused a sensation at the World Rally Championship and took two victories in the world-famous Pike's Peak hill-climb.
Audi A6 Avant 2.8 quattro
Its distinctively elegant design, advanced technology and no-compromise quality have enabled the Audi A6 sedan to maintain its leading market segment position ever since its launch. Building on this success has led to the introduction of the Audi A6 Avant one year ago.
Audi S6 (for exhibit only)
The attractive newcomer, the S6, now joins the Audi S3, S4 and S8, first unveiled at the Frankfurt Motor Show just this past September. The design of the Audi S6 is instantly recognizable as having the dynamic character which characterizes all Audi S family models. Based on the Audi A6 4.2 quattro, the Audi S6 creates its own distinct visual impact, through the new, boldly styled front grilles. The flared wheel arches and fenders are well matched with the Avus design cast aluminum wheels fitted with 225/40R17 tires. Polished aluminum door mirror casings, dual chrome-plated exhaust tailpipes, as well as bumpers and side sills in the body color create additional visual accents. The Audi S6's power unit employs a 4.2-liter 5-valve V8 engine capable of delivering a maximum output of 250kW (340 ps). The power flow from this eight-cylinder engine is truly impressive, with a 300Nm (30.6kgm) torque available slightly above idling speed and a maximum tprque of 420Nm (42.8kgm) reached at 3,400 rpm. Top speed is electronically limited to 250km/h and the Audi S6 can go from 0 to 100km/h in just 5.7 seconds.
Audi A8 4.2 quattro
Already it can be seen that luxury cars will have to satisfy the demands for lightweight design as well as a no-compromise combination of spacious interior and maximum safety. Environmental measures are also a 'must' for any vehicle. Only if all these requirements are fulfilled will the car be able to establish a solid presence in the marketplace and in the public eye as well. In 1994, the Audi A8 became the world's first full-size saloon utilizing an Audi Space Frame (ASF) full-aiuminum body structre. Ever since then, the flagship Audi A8 has been regarded as a benchmark for technical progress in the luxury xar class. The ASF structure offers many advantages: improved power and handling as well as enhanced fuel economy due to a weight reduction of approximately 40% when compared to a steel monocoque body of the same dimensions (in-house comparison). Maximum safety is also ensured through a high-rigidity body with pre-defined deformation zones at front and rear for effective impact absorption. The sturdy ASF structure also offers enhanced comfort with a drastic reduction of interior noise. Using easily recyclable aluminum also makes the Audi A8 environment-friendly. For the first time Audi is launching a tasteful update of this innovative saloon. The new generation Audi A8 incorporates impressive styling refinements and numerous technological advances. Following its debut in Germany last November, the new Audi A8 is ready to make an impact on the Japanese market as well. The introduction of this new flagship model reinforces Audi's distinctive positioning as a "sports premium" car.
