Symposiums to gain insights into the relationship between automobiles and society

Tokyo Motor Show Symposium 2007 (International Conference Hall)
Symposiums will be held to let the audience to think about the future of cars and society from various angles with multiple themes. There will also be an event for direct dialogue about automobiles between the JAMA Chairman Mr. Cho and general car users.

Cinema Theater – Cars full of dream, fun and splendor- (International Conference Hall)

For the “Cars full of dream” segment, join celebrity science professor Denjiro Yonemura, who will navigate you through the latest safety and environmental technologies of Japanese cars in a fun and interesting way. In the “Cars full of fun and splendor” documentary, the camera followed students spending about a year to build a car to challenge the 5th Student Formula SAE Competition of Japan (held September 12 – 15). These two films reflect the strong technological capabilities of world-class Japanese cars and the passion toward innovative manufacturing that generates this.

Demonstration Runs by Vehicles Racing in the 5th Student Formula SAE Competition of Japan (Central Rest Zone)

The 5th Student Formula SAE Competition of Japan asks university students to display their “total manufacturing capabilities” by conceiving, designing and fabricating an automobile. The competition was held on September 12-15, 2007 at the ECOPA Ogasayama Sports Park in Shizuoka, and some of the participating universities will be at the Tokyo Motor Show to demonstrate their vehicles in the Central Rest Zone.

Tomica Choro-Q Corner
The miniature car exhibit and sales booth sponsored by Tomy Co., Ltd. has been a regular presence since the 35th Tokyo Motor Show 2001. This year, the TOMICA Corner is renewing its name to the “TOMICA / Choro-Q Corner.” To celebrate the holding of the Tokyo Motor Show, limited-edition models of the radio-controlled “Q-Steer” Choro-Q as well as the Tomica cars will be offered for sale.

Children’s Art Exhibit
This year is the 10th time the Children’s Art Exhibit, a collection of art drawn by kindergarten children in Chiba City, will be held. The “Shaping Your Dreams by Tomica” has been planned to celebrate this milestone. From over 3,500 drawings received for the Children’s Art Exhibit, three very childlike and unique drawings have been selected and recreated as Tomica models with the cooperation of Tomy Co., Ltd. These will be displayed in the Tomica Choro-Q Corner.

Infant/Child Care Center

The Infant/Child Care Center is located at the Kids’ Park, 2F North Hall and provides a place for nursing and diaper changes as part of efforts to improve hospitality for family visitors. Babysitting services are also available for children from 3 to 6 years of age.

“Gran Turismo 5 Prologue”: Next-Generation Car Life Experience Arena (2F Central Mall, in front of the East Hall)

Sony Computer Entertainment Inc. will sponsor a test drive corner for “Gran Turismo 5 Prologue,” an online car life simulator for “PLAYSTATION 3.” You will find “Gran Turismo 5 Prologue” in the Next-Generation Car Life Experience Arena.

The game features a wide variety of vehicles, from ever-popular classic sports cars to the very latest in new models, including some that are on exhibit at the Tokyo Motor Show. Driving, seeing, knowing, interacting: you can also get a glimpse at the “next generation of car life” made possible with the combination of “Gran Turismo 5 Prologue,” “PLAYSTATION 3” and networking environments.

The Entertaining Festival Plaza “Lifestyle Park” (West Rest Zone)*

Demonstrations of trial bikes and Chiba Prefectural Police motorcycles will be conducted. Talk shows will be held on an event stage using a stage car.

Sale of Japanese Motor Vehicles Guidebook, Paper Handbags and Eco-bags

The Japanese Motor Vehicles Guidebook will be available at seven locations throughout the show: North Gate No. 1, North Hall South Side, Central Rest Zone, Yasuragi Mall, Ikoi Mall, Service Passage and 2F Central Mall. In addition to the Japanese Motor Vehicles Guidebook 2007-2008 (Vol. 54), the only almanac covering domestic vehicles, we will also be selling paper “handy bags” (¥100), “eco-bags” (cloth, ¥200), the official Tokyo Motor Show Guide 2007 (authorized by JAMA and published by Nikkan Jidosha Shimbun, ¥500 [consumption tax included]). Coupons for free copies of the Japanese Motor Vehicles Guidebook 2007-2008 (Vol. 54) (valid during the show) can be exchanged here.

JAMA Information Booth (2F Central Mall, in front of the Central Hall)

The “JAMA Information Booth” is located on the 2nd floor of the Central Mall and features introductions to

JAMA’s safety and environment programs. In addition to panel displays, publicity pamphlets and videos, it also serves as the information center for the Tokyo Motor Show, directing visitors to the many audience-participation, hands-on events available.

The JAMA is also a participant in the Team -6% Committee’s “Reduce 1 kg of CO2 per Person per Day” campaign, and visitors who sign the “Challenge Declaration” and bring their “Challenge Card” with them to the show will receive a 5% discount on the purchase of the Tokyo Motor Show official goods. Personal computers are available in the JAMA Information Booth for people who want to sign up for “Declaration Cards” at the show.

Newspaper and Magazine Corner

The Newspaper and Magazine Corner (20 companies, 26 booths) is located on the 2nd floor of the Central Mall and sell a wide variety of automobile-related newspapers, magazines, technical books, DVDs and CD-ROMs.

Blood Drive and Bone Marrow Bank Corner (Special Conference Room, North Hall south side)

The Japanese Red Cross will be conducting a blood drive in the Special Conference Room on the second floor of the North Hall south side (the first aid station is located on the first floor). The Chiba Prefectural Bone Marrow Bank Promotion Council will also provide an opportunity for blood donors to register with the bone marrow bank. A large number of visitors do stop by at the corners. The previous 39th show in 2005 saw the number of bone marrow donor registrations increase 3.8-fold over the 37th show (234 people registered in 2003), the first time there was a registration campaign at the Tokyo Motor Show. Further Improved New Visitor Services


Aiming to further enhance visitor services, the following will be implemented.


Introduction of an Official Travel Agency

Messe Travel Service, a company within Makuhari Messe, Inc., has been designated as Official Travel Agency (“OTA”) to provide integrated travel services to visitors. Jointly with business partner JTB Corp., OTA will provide not only services such as accommodations for Japanese and foreign press and exhibitors, but will also work to attract the general public to the show. OTA services have been available from April 19th (Thursday). For details, see the OTA website.

There will be a Local Services Desk on the 2nd floor near the Central Entrance during the show to provide information on transportation, lodgings and other local services. Visitors from overseas (including exhibitors and members of the press) can also rent mobile phones (charged separately).

Implementation of Online Ticket System “E-tix”

A new initiative for this show is the implementation of e-tix, a system where tickets can be bought via the Internet from anywhere in the world. After paying for tickets by credit card on the Internet, tickets can be printed out at home or at the office. The service began on the Tokyo Motor Show Official Website on Wednesday, August 1, selling advance tickets through October 26th (Friday) and same-day tickets from October 27th (Saturday) through November 11th (Sunday).

A new service will commence on Wednesday, October 10 allowing visitors to purchase tickets on their mobile phones and use their mobile phones to gain admission to the show. For details see the Tokyo Motor Show Official Website.
