Highlights on the Volkswagen Booth
The main highlight of the Volkswagen exhibits is a world premier, the second edition of the "New Small Family" concept car, succeeding the debut of the "up!" at the Frankfurt Motor Show this September. Volkswagen, the creator of the original Beetle, proposes this innovative concept vehicle which shall satisfy the needs for future "Mobility," whilst considering the growing concerns for the environment.
The Tiguan, an all-new compact SUV which Volkswagen proudly starts to introduce this November into the European market, makes its Japan debut. All Tiguans will be equipped with direct-injection charged engines, the first SUV to do so, being powered either by the newly-developed common-rail TDI engines or twin-charged, direct-injection gasoline engines (TSI).
Another Japan premier is the Passat Variant R36, a premium–sports version filled with exclusive exterior and interior appointments. This evolutionary model with a powerful 300PS 3.6L V6 engine, boasts the highest performance ever in the history of the Passat.
Among the new technology exhibits, the single-charged, 1.4-liter TSI engine with 90kW further reduces the weight and consumption of the renowned TSI unit. This new TSI engine will be coupled with the world's first 7-speed DSG with dry dual clutches, a combination, which registers lower consumption than with comparable manual transmission. Also in the exhibits is a new, clean and powerful common-rail TDI engine which meets the future Euro 5 emission standards. Furthermore the RNS-510, a new-generation navigation system which is capable of receiving terrestrial digital broadcast and loaded with the latest audio & visual functions, is on display.
