Needle Roller Bearings for Crank support" are developed for automotive engine instead of metal bearing to achieve low friction. It is impossible to use normal bearings for crankshaft, but split cage with rollers and natural split outer ring could be used for crankshaft. Outer ring and cage has enough strength with machining work production, therefore they are designed for heavy load running. This needle roller bearings achieved 90% low starting torque, 60% low rotation torque and could be run in 1/10 amount of lubrication than metal bearings. Full-complement needle bearings are used for the locker arm of the automotive engine. The further permissible load improvement is demanded in the bearings along with making of the engine high power. To meet this needs, the FA treatment technology was originally developed in NTN. Fatigue strength improves when the crystaline grain of the steel material becomes small. It's the crystaline grain of bearing steels to past 1/2 or less for the first time in the world. In the adoption of this FA treatment,if it is the same size as current one, the bearing life can be improved to four times or more. 0r,if it is the same bearing life as current one, the size can be reduced by about 20%.

Double-row thrust needle roller bearings" are developed to meet the customer's needs,that is longer service life, lower torque and lower noise. By using two rows of needle rollers in each cage pocket and by optimizing the roller shape, NTN has successfully minimized roller slippage and achieved the above mentioned customer's needs. This needle roller bearings for car air conditioning compressors(plastic cage type) achieved 12 times longer service life and 50% low rotation torque ,8dBA low noise compared with current one. The other typs for automatic transmissions(steel cage type) achieved 3 times longer service life and 40% low rotation torque compared with current one. In addition, new manufacturing technique called ""full-circumference tight seal staking"" produces a cage with a new and improved shape, significantly increasing caage strength(1.6 times better than current design)."

The Minimized Cross Section Thrust Needle Roller Bearings' are developed for the automotive transmission etc. , which can be used for the cross height 1mm( with 1mm diameter rollers). For non friction between cage and roller with this minimizing cross section, we reformed the design of cage's column with keeping enough strength, we achieved 1-2mm cross section. With this development, transmission's compactification could be achieved of course, and the componentry which could not use bearings because of the matter of space could be changed and low friction could be achieved.

Drawn-cup needle roller bearings for an electric reclining seat gives the comfort and durability to an electric reclining seat. A market requires the improvement in a feeling, the reduction in torque and a long-life of an electric reclining seat. To satisfy this demand, NTN designed new shape cage with the number of rollers equivalent to the full-complement type drawn-cup needle roller bearings. This design improves the feeling of the seat reclining. According to the evaluation, the vibration is 40% lower than the current one, and the torque is 40% lower. Because the load capacity and outer ring strength were improved, life is 6 times as long as the current one.

Principal Function of MLA (Mechanical Lash Adjuster) MLA automatically compensates for expansion and contraction of engine structure and valve train components due to temperature change and/or frictional wear with precision control of the valve event.
Features of MLA 1. Compact and Light-Weight Design MLA has about 50% shorter axial length compared with conventional HLA (Hydraulic Lash Adjuster), providing design freedom for further engine-size reduction.

Constant Velocity Steering Joint CSJ |
This NTN constant velocity steering joint (CSJ) was developed specifically for use in automobile steering systems. The CSJ is compact, lightweight, and has no rotational backlash. By utilizing NTN's original rotational direction backlash reduction mechanism and by optimizing factors such as the inner gap, NTN has been able to suppress rotational direction backlash and maintain smooth rotational operation throughout the entire operating range, up to a maximum angle of 48degrees. The CSJ also provides excellent strength and durability. Furthermore, the CSJ is approximately 50% smaller and lighter in weight than a conventional double cardin joint, allowing for much greater flexibility in the design of the steering equipment layout.

Compact Low Vibration CVJ EPTJ |
The tripod-style "EPTJ" is a compact, plunging, low-vibration constant velocity joint. The EPTJ uses the same mechanism as the PTJ low-vibration CVJ, which greatly improved the vibration characteristics of the plunging constant velocity joint (the vibration characteristics affect NVH (noise, vibration, harshness) characteristics). By optimizing factors such as the inner gap and heat treatment process, and by taking full advantage of FEM stress analysis and dynamic mechanical analysis, NTN has been able to maintain the excellent vibration characteristics of the PTJ while creating a product that is more compact and lighter in weight. For the outer race cup, the size has been reduced by approximately 4% (for NTN, this equates with one size more compact), the weight has been reduced by approximately 8%, and the maximum operating angle is maintained at 26degrees, the same as that of the PTJ.

High Angle Low Vibration CVJ 30‹PTJ |
This plunging-type low vibration constant velocity joint has a tripod format and a high operating angle of 30degrees. The 30degrees PTJ achieves this high operating angle using the same mechanism as the PTJ low-vibration CVJ, which greatly improved the vibration characteristics of the plunging constant velocity joint (the vibration characteristics affect NVH (noise, vibration, harshness) characteristics). The 30degrees PTJ has the same outer diameter as the PTJ, but the maximum operating angle has been increased from 26degrees to 30degrees, expanding the low-vibration angle area by 2degrees.

High Angle Compact DOJ |
This lightweight, compact plunging constant velocity joint has a maximum operating angle of 30degrees. By taking advantage of FEM stress analysis and dynamic mechanical analysis to optimize the internal design, NTN has been able to maintain strength and durability while reducing the outer race cup outer diameter by approximately 4% and the weight by approximately 6% (compared with a conventional DOJ), which in turn provide greater fuel efficiency and greater freedom in the layout of the drive system.

Monoblock Tubular Shaft |
Compared with bar shafts, this monoblock tubular shaft allows for greater flexibility in the fine-tuning of properties such as weight, torsional rigidity, and bending character frequency. This flexibility contributes greatly to the reduction of vehicle weight and vibration. Two types are available -- a variable thickness type and a non-variable thickness type. The variable thickness type is processed to reduce material thickness at the center of the shaft, reducing shaft weight and allowing greater freedom in the design of vibration characteristics. This processing is not applied to the non-variable thickness type, so cost is lower but design flexibility is also somewhat more limited. Cold rotary swaging processing is used to shape the shaft for a high level of processing precision. These products are now being mass produced in Japan and Europe, and demand for this type of shaft will continue to grow. |

E-series CVJ for Propeller Shaft |
Designed specifically for the propeller shaft of front FR and 4WD vehicles, this lightweight, compact, high efficiency constant velocity joint responds to the needs for improved vehicle fuel efficiency and compatibility with increasingly complex drive system layouts. The lineup includes the fixed-type HEBJ model and the plunging-type HLJ, HEDJ and HETJ models. Users can select the optimum joint to meet application requirements such as working angle, rotational speed, and plunging length.

Low Idlling Vibration CVJ |
This low idling vibration CVJ consists of a combination of the CVJ developed this time installed on the tire side of the system and a PTJ (EPTJ) low-vibration plunging joint installed on the differential side in order to greatly reduce vibration during idling. Here, we use the term "idling" to refer to when the vehicle is stopped temporarily and the footbrake is applied while the transmission is in drive ranges. "Idling vibration" refers to the minute vibration resulting from the engine vibration passing through the joint into the car body. This system is based on a conventional joint design, but by optimizing the internal dimensions of the joint, NTN has been able to realize maximum effect with minimum modification, making it possible to minimize cost increases as well.

Ultra High Angle Fixed CVJ |
By improving the internal design of the joint, NTN has been able to keep the outer race cup outer diameter to the same size as that of the undercut free joint (UJ), a conventional high-angle, fixed-type constant velocity joint, while increasing the maximum operation angle from the UJ's 50º to 54º, creating a constant velocity joint designed for use in automobiles and which has the world's largest operating angle. Greater freedom in vehicle layout design can be realized by utilizing this constant velocity joint. For example, the vehicle turning radius can be reduced, the wheelbase can be lengthened while maintaining the same turning radius, or the vehicle interior can be made more spacious.

Variable Timing Controll |
With conventional engines, the pulley is directly fixed to the cam shaft, so it is only possible to achieve a specific valve open-close timing. However, continuous variable control of valve timing can be achieved by using a VTC unit instead of a pulley. The VTC structure consists of a housing that is fixed to the pulley and a vane fixed to the cam shaft. Between the housing and vane there are oil pressure chambers for two systems -- an advance angle chamber and a delay angle chamber. By moving oil in and out of the hydraulic chambers, it is possible to control the open-close timing of the valve. The use of VTC results in the following advantages: 1. Increased torque. 2. Increased maximum output. 3. Increased fuel efficiency and reduced CO2 emission. 4. Reduced NOx (nitrogen oxides).

Apex Seal |
With the VTC, it is possible to control the open-close timing of the valve by moving oil in and out of the oil pressure chambers of two systems -- the advance angle chamber and delay angle chamber. Apex seals are used to seal these oil pressure chambers. A high degree of processing precision for each of the system parts is required in order to achieve the proper sealing of each chamber with the sliding contact surfaces of the housing and vane, but the use of apex seals makes it possible to reduce production cost. Apex Seal Features - Excellent sealing performance resulting from high-precision molding. - Utilization of materials with superb wear resistance.

The seal ring is the seal that is used to switch the oil flow path. With the VTC, for example, oil is supplied to the advance angle chamber and delay angle chamber on the cam shaft side, and the seal ring is used to switch the flow of the oil. Seal Ring Features - The seal ring causes no wear on the parts it contacts. - There is little wear on the seal ring itself.
