Saab at the 35th Tokyo Motor Show

The Saab booth for the 35th Tokyo Motor Show was designed under the concept of Saab's brand character of "Sport & Versatility" and the "Modernity" of Northern Europe. The impressive booth decorated with ribbon walls centers on the "Saab 9X" which expresses Saab's future design concept. Production models 9-3 and 9-5 have all been unified in flagship grade to further emphasize the Saab image. Also, the 9-5 that received minor changes as the 2002 model, will be introduced at the show before being released in the Japanese market.

Highlight of Exibits
  • Saab 9X
Saab 9X was born as a concept car to show the direction of Saab's future design concept. This is the first "multi-dynamic" 4WD car that features its sporty quality and convenience. Its styling and design are at a realistic level for future mass production.
The extremely compact Saab 9X is a car designed to combine the highest levels of driving satisfaction with great flexibility of use. A car that is imossible to pigeohhole, the Saab 9X may be best described as asoprty, multi-dynamic car that captures the essence of Saab's brand appeal.
The Saab 9X project is led by Saab's Advanced Design department in Sweden with technical support for the chassis and powertrain from teams within the Saab Advanced Concept Center (SAC).
The Saab 9X breaks new ground in simultaneously offering the following "dimensions" and advanced teatures:
•Coupe 2-2 format-seating for four, fibre-optic headlamps, neon strip rear lights, keyless security and ignition system.
    •Roadster format-two powered sliding/detachable/stowable glass roof panels, frame-less doors.
•Wagon format-fold-flat seating, flip-down tailgate, retracting rear window, flexible cargo securing system.
•Pick-up format-open rear deck, electro-hydraulic telescopic floor extension, detachable rear roof rail.

Sporting, More Contemporary Look
The Saab 9-5 has always possessed a sculpted appearance. It's a tautly drawn car, the masculine lines reflecting the 9-5's engineering inheritance, sporting performance and design functionality.
By necessity, Saab designs have been enduring, and the crafted-from-metal execution of the 9-5 is no exception. So Saab's designers have done little to alter the basic appearance of the new 9-5range. Instead, they have concentrated on updating features to keep the appearance contemporary without compromising the original's design integrity.
The key changes center around a spoortier frontal appearance, emphasising the performance nature of the new Saab 9-5 range's all-turbo driving experience. The bumper has been extended forwards by 20mm to give the frontal view a smoother, more aerodynamic aspect, while the traditional grille has been given a modern integrated execution with openings framed by chrome.
