Features of Display Vehicle
Reference Models
  • Frogster
"Frogster" is a fresh, confident and stimulating concept car clad in green and resembling the "Laubfrosch"(tree frong) that was announced in the 1920s. The designers and engineers of Opel were able to incorporate a novel idea for the next generation consumers in order to redefine the concept for today's small cars. This study model employs an electromotored roller cover instead of the traditional soft top. As this car has four individually-collapsible seats, the driver is able to use a single button to freely change the car into a single seat, or dual seat roadster, a three-seat, four-seat convertible or "pick up". When parking the car the cover can be closed snugly to the base part of the windshield by sliding the cover to the front like a shutter. Moreover, the small detachable computer mounted onto the center of the dash board functions not only as a "Personal Digital Assistant"(PDA), but as a keyless entry device and the remote control for the roller cover. When this PDA is housed in the Frogster's center console it becomes a display for radio, navigation system and climate control system. Measuring 3,715 x 1,680 x 1,530mm(length x width x height) the front end uses the large trapezoid-shaped frontend as the design motif. The large wheel arch, the 175/55 R15 tires, the three-dimensional head lamps and tail lamps all carry on Opel's design identity. On the other hand there are many practical equipment incorporated such as the running board and the large hand grip in the rear.

  • ASTRA Coupe OPC X-Treme
The Astra Coupe OPC X-Treme is a two-seater concept car based on the Astra Cope V8 race car which was successful in the Deutch Touring Car championships(DTM). The engineers off X-Treme used technologies nurtured at DTM in various areas such as the 4.0-liter V8 engine, FR layout and sequential six-speed gear box, realizing a car with a maximum output of 326kW/444ps and maximum torque of 530Nm. The gull-wing type doors, the most significant features of the exterior, open and close smoothly with a gas-sealed type strut. Also, the 265/30ZR20 tires are used in the front and 305/25ZR20 in the rear. The appearance of the car retains the powerful image of the racing model. Also, because the car is based on the DTM race car, it naturally has its excellent drive stability. But the major feature is its corroborative evidence of the exponential effect on mass production and motor sports activity. The X-Treme proves the high level of engineering technology at Open as well as show the serious attitude of the engineers toward motor sports.

  • HydroGen3
Opel's HydroGen3 is the successor to "HydroGen1" which was announced recently as fuel-cell mounting car, and one of General Motors' vision toward a new transport system. The previous concept car, HydroGen1, uses as power a fuel cell obtained through the chemical reaction of hydrogen and oxygen. At the Sydney Olympics in 2000 the car was used as the lead car in the women's and men's marathon events. It shows that General Motors is already the world leader in technology and environmental protection. General Motors is also well known for its expression of determination to produce cars that use resources effectively. Its successor HydroGen3 was made 100kg lighter than HydroGen1 by optimizing the fuel cell. The car secures about the same luggage space as a five-seat capacity mass-production car, Opel Zefira. The (fuel) stack mounted onto HydroGen3 generates a rated power of 94kW (previously this was 80kW) and a maximum output of 129kW (previously 120kW) when hydrogen and oxygen are electro-chemically reacted at a temperature of 80 degree centigrade. With the extremely effective drive system, an acceleration of 0 - 100km/h in 16 seconds and a maximum speed of 150km/h is realized.
