BOOTH GUIDE :

Mitsubishi Motors Booth Guide

At Mitsubishi Motors, we have been promoting our Turnaround Plan through our partnership with DaimlerChrysler to deliver attractive vehicles to our customers worldwide.
In our New History campaign, we've made it clear that we are fully committed to this end, and that we will address the challenges that lie ahead. They are the challenges of a) pursuing a new approach to car making; b) delivering better and surer quality; and c) transforming ourselves into a company befitting the new century.
At the 35th Tokyo Motor Show, we break down the stage into three time zones-"Present", "Tomorrow" and "Future"-while aligning four concept cars and two rally cars. This is to guide you through our new design and new approach to car making, and to help you understand where Mitsubishi Motors is headed for. Based on the concept of "Bringing everyone a Heart-Beating experience with every Mitsubishi car," we wil1 display a total of 21 models, including our existing models, dress-up cars, and welfare vehicles. So, come and visit our booth to witness the new Mitsubishi Motors that is now striding into its new history.

Concept Car Stage for Tomorrow
  • CZ2 - "urban Sallish Compact"
Casual and stylish, a new generation compact car that makes those who see it stir and those who ride it excited. We bring you a car that's "heart-beating" all over. An emotional, chic design with a smooth one-motion silhouette and a wave-shaped instrument panel. A spacious interior, thanks to a long wheelbase, is fitted with new equipment for passenger comfort and convenience that ranges from the accommodating front bench seat to the door pockets that are detachable hence portable. The car's roof also incorporates a unique mechanism that allows each passenger to let or not let the sunshine in independently. A fiber-optical lighting system and other advanced features abound. What's more, the 1.3-liter DOHC 16-valve engine with a variable valve timing mechanism and the continuously variable transmission system (CVT), when combined, accommodate driving performance and fuel economy both at high levels. In short, it's a new type of compact that will make you enjoy your daily life. That's why we made no compromise on the car's emotional taste and level of quality.

  • CZ3 Tarmac - "Sports-Feel Compact"
Evolving from the rally machine driven by Tommi Makinen, a WRC champion, it's a sporty 4-door compact with a rally feel-particularly in its driving performance and the cockpit design. The car is propelled by 1.5-liter GDI engine with an intercoolerd turbocharger that brings the maximum out of both response and fuel economy. Its powertrain incorporates Mitsubishi Motors' cutting-edge technology. Take, for example, the same 4WD system used in the Lancer Evolution áZ that now comes with the ACD (active center differential) system and the AYC (active yaw control) system. All this allows high levels of vehicle control that remains true to the driver's feeling under any driving circumstance. It also gives you the feel of crisp, sports driving and pleasure of being one with the machine. The exterior features contours that are dynamic and emotional. The cockpit is fitted with everything that excites your senses-the gear lever that's reminiscent of a sequential gear lever and a set of three indicators on the dash. The center dashboard comes with a multi-purpose monitor that centrally displays the state of DVD or navigation system, adding further to the comfort of the urban lifestyle.

Concept Car Stage for the Future
  • Space Liner - "Next-generation Relaxing Vehicle"
This car embodies our concept that will redefine the value of a space. The Space Liner strikes the right balance between the private space in a cabin and the open space that surrounds it, while ensuring pleasant levels of interactivity between the two as often seen in the Japanese culture. The exterior presents a low and wide figure realized by a futuristic mono-form shape and a long wheelbase. While the car looks sporty as well as elegant, the perfect blend between the two demonstrates the aesthetics of its own. A unique seating layout, with ample shoulder room, allows four adults to stay relaxed. A touch of the Japanese subtlety in interior space design is evident throughout - from indirect lighting to translucent sunshade - adding to passenger comfort. To ensure the ease of getting in and out of the car, doors open wide from the center pillar and the front seats are electrically revolving. Together with a sofa-type rear seat, they provide a stress-free environment. Also, to alleviate driver's stress on the road, the car incorporates the innovative ITS-ASV technology that helps the driver trace the lane (i.e., lane trace assistant function). The accelerator and brake buttons are within easy reach of the driver, thanks to the drive-by-wire system. What's more, the steering column can be relocated so that you can opt for right-hand or left-hand driving. Befitting the future concept car, fuel cells will be used as the car's power source, and the drive train is fitted with a 4WD system that operates on front and rear motors that work independently.

  • S.U.P. - "New Earth Gear"
While fully adept in high-tech gadgets in business, you might want to be totally free and soak yourself in nature on weekends. The S.U.P.(Sports Utility Pack) is designed to portray this new generation attitude and nature loving mind. Thus, the car's design, encompassing many fun factors, represents their pleasant lifestyle of enjoying themselves. Take a pop-taste tube line that circles around the car body and is fitted with built-in headlights and taillights. Or, an electrically louvered sunroof that opens wide. Innovative design is evident also in interior appointments. Door panels, for example, are fitted with half-transparent detachable pockets. Being a hybrid car, its front wheels are driven by the Soft HEV (GDI - ISA), and the rear wheels are driven by a pair of electric motors. This will ensure smooth drive, regardless of terrain, while minimizing the damage on the environment and natural resources.

  • Lancer Evolution WRC
Mitsubishi's Lancer Evolution World Rally Car made a debut in October 2001 at the Sanremo Rally. Compared with its predecessors with Group A specification, the Lancer Evolution WRC incorporates substantial improvements according to the World Rally Car regulations. The engine placement, for example, has been adjusted and the wheel arches have been expanded. All this translates into greater combating capability. While capitalizing on this opportunity, Mitsubishi Motors will vigorously develop the kind of improvements allowed only to World Rally Cars, so that its experience can be reflected in all production models as well as new models yet to be developed. In short, we will promote a closer relationship between rally cars and production models.

  • Pajero Paris-Dakar Winning Model
The Paris-Dakar Rally is known as the world's most grueling motor sport event. Ever since 1983 when we entered this event with Pajero, it has won a number of trophies. In 1997, Kenjiro Shinozuka became the first Japanese driver ever to win the Dakar Rally, driving his T2 Pajero (improved production model). Not only did Shinozuka finish first, his teammates followed to monopolize the top four places - the first such achievement ever made by the same manufacturer in the history of this prestigious event. 2001 saw another first by Mitsubishi - Jutta Kleinschmid became the first female driver to win an overall win. She will join other veteran drivers, such as Shinozuka and Masuoka, in the Dakar Rally next year.

Unveiled in October 2001, the eK WAGON features a semi-tall package that ensures excellent view and passenger convenience. It's easy to get in and out. Yet, the 1,500 mm overall height means that the car can be stored in a parking tower. Highest levels of passive safety and crisp handling add to the pleasur of motoring. Convenient interior equipment ranges from the center instrument panel to a mini trash box. The eK WAGON redefines minicars with a semi-tall package.

  • Airtrek
The Airtrek combines the utility of a minivan and the sporty driving feel of a station wagon at high levels. Not only that, it also delivers the off-road capability of an SUV. Featuring a user-friendly design that ensures the ease of ingress and egress not readily available in a conventional recreational vehicle. While securing ample space in the cabin, the Airtrek can access any parking tower. It's full-time 4WD system adds to the car's all-terrain performance. A high ground clearance indicates the car's excellent off-road capability. Little wonder that the Airtrek is called "a new-generation crossover recreational vehicle." Simply put, it's a smart all-rounder. The dress-up version of the Airtrek will also be exhibites for reference. It features MOMO-coordinated interior appointments.
