Highlights of the Ford Booth
The American dream car - loved by Americans including John
F.Kennedy, who demonstrated his passion for the Ford Thunderbird
by including 50 of them in his inaugural procession. The automotive
legend is back. However, it's not a 'remake'. It's not 'retro'.
While the new Thunderbird pays homage to its past and contains
obvious design cues that tie it to the classic American icon,
it's a car that lives in the future with a decidedly modern
interpretation. The new Thunderbird uses Ford's latest engineering
technologies and offers superb driving dynamics that define
a new standard and lead us into the future.
The new Thunderbird - a new American motoring icon that offers
world-class driving dynamics supported by 21st century technologies
while paying tribute to the original 1955 Thunderbirds DNA
attributes.
Another living legend - Ford Mustang Bullitt GT has transformed
the Mustang GT into an unforgettable car that enhances Ford's
performance reputation and builds on Mustang's performance
tradition. Steve McQeen raced through the streets of San Francisco
in the movie Bullitt in a 1968 Mustang GT 390. Ford brings
the magic and agile driving performance displayed in one of
the greatest car cahse scence ever with Mustang Bullitt GT.

The New Thunderbird (reference) |
(one unit) |
In automotive history, there is no such a car that is loved,
on which people have an emotion hold, as the Ford Thunderbird.
Since its introduction in 1954, the Thunderbird has been
an American cultural icon. While the car has changed over
time from the classic two-seater, roadster, convertible,
4-door, hardtop and sedan, more than 1.2 million Thunderbirds
have been built since 1954. When Ford announced the production
suspension of the Thunderbird in 1997, people felt heartbreak
but at the same time were hopeful for the car's comeback.

|
In January 1999, an automotive legend was reborn as the Ford
Thunderbird made its return as an all-new concept car at the
North American international Auto Show in Detroit (Detroit
Show). The new Thunderbird, which debuted at the 2001 Detroit
Show and now showcased at the Tokyo Motor Show, is a production
version of the Thunderbird concept, fully revived as part
of Ford's regular product offerings.
The new Thunderbird, a two-seat, rear-wheel-drive, V-8 powered,
convertible roadster, features the rich heritage with trademark
design cues from the classic Thunderbirds and blends it into
contemporary forms. The development philosophy of the original
Thunderbird, pursuit for better acceleration brought by well-designed
weight distribution, still lives in the new Thunderbird.
The 2002 Thunderbirds are equipped with an all-new, all-aluminum
3.9-liter DOHC V-8 engine. It was designed along with a specifically
engineered close-ratio, five-speed automatic transmission
that provides performance and efficiency along with minimal
levels of noise, vibration and harshness (NVH).
Well-balanced rear-wheel drive, rigid chassis and fine-tuned
four-wheel independent suspension system made of light-weight
materials give the car world-class driving dynamics. The rack-and
pinion steering gear is a variable-assist desigh, providing
lower turning efforts at parking speeds and higher-lever road
feel at highway speeds. In the desigh works of the new Thunderbird,
the C3P system - computer-aided desigh, computer-aided engineering,
computer-aide manufacfuring and product information management
- was used. C3P is a process introduced to develop the Ford
Mondeo and to improve vehicle quality.
In September 2000, the American upscale retailer Neiman Marcus
made 200 special editon Thunderbirds available for early orders
in its annual Christmas Book, a catalog of exclusive gifts.
The cars sold out in a record time of 2 hours and 15 minutes,
demonstrating people's passion for the Thunderbird.

Mustang Bullitt GT(reference) |
(one unit) |
It was the 1968 Mustang GT 390, the car in which Steve McQueen
raced through the streets of San Francisco in the movie
Bullitt, creating one of the greatest car chase scenes ever.
Ford took some of the passion from the film and put it in
an exciting new carÅFMustang Bullitt GT.
|
|
The Mustang Bullitt GT features exterior enhancements that
visually and emotionally connect it to the 1968 fastback Mustang
GT 390 from the film. These modifications include unique side
scoops, 17-inch Bullitf-style aluminum wheels and a lowered
suspension specially tuned for the car. Rocker-panel moldings
enhance the low-to-the-ground appearance. A bold, brushed
aluminum fuel filler door is prominently placed on the quarter
panel. Bullitf badging and polished-rolled tailpipe tips further
distinguish the car. The car showcased at the Tokyo Motor
Show is in Dark Highland Green, the color that carries the
image of the car used in the film.
Bucket seats with Dark Charcoal leather trim, shifter bezel
and door sill plates with Bullitt nomenclature accent the
interior's performance appearance. The instrument cluster
gives a modern look to 1960s interior with unique curved numeric
speedometer graphics and a white-lit background. The Mustang
Bullitt GT is equipped with a 4.6-liter SOHC V-8 engine modified
to improve airflow. Modifications include twin 57 mm bore
throttle body, cast aluminum intake manifold, high-flow mufflers
for increased power and aggressive performance sound. The
engine produces 265 horsepower and a broader torque curve
compared with the Mustang GT engine. The vehicle is lowered
three-fourths of an inch to generate improved handling characteristics.

Ford has participated in the World Rally Championships since
1999 with the Ford Focus WRC car, a rally car based on the
