Theme of The 35th Tokyo Motor Show - Passenger Cars & Motorcycles - (2001) is Decided
Open the door! The Automobiles Bright Future.

The Japan Motor Industrial Federation, Inc. (Chairman: Hiroshi Okuda) has settled on the theme, the logo, and the poster for the upcoming 35th Tokyo Motor Show - Passenger Cars & Motorcycles - (2001) to be held later this year from October 26 (Saturday) to November 7 (Wednesday) at the Makuhari Messe (Nippon Convention Center, Inc.) in Chiba city.

Theme
The theme of this year's show is "Open the door! The Automobiles Bright Future."
What could be more fitting for this 35th Tokyo Motor Show in the year 2001 - at the very onset of the 21st century - than the image of a curtain raising on a bright new era juxtaposed with that of doors opening for a vast succession of new automobiles. And here we are also thinking metaphorically of the "doors of innovation and change" opening up with technological solutions that will safeguard and protect the environment. Opening that door opens the way to new lifestyles. People who make cars and people who ride in cars share a common vision of how the future will unfold. The expression open is meant to convey the importance of our actions as global citizens and our resolve as people living in the 21st century.

Logo and Poster
The logo for this year's show was created by artist Shin Kamiya in collaboration with art director Naonori Nakamura. The circle motif of course symbolizes the automobile, but also conveys a rich range of subtle psychological nuances of expansiveness, inclusiveness, and continuity. The circle also conveys a future-oriented open-door kind of message.

Preview of Exhibits
This year's show will encompass exhibits from 276 companies, 6 governments, and 1 independent organization representing 13 countries including Japan from around the globe (as of March 1). Broken out by category, the exhibitors include 39 automakers (10 from Japan and 29 from other countries), 12 motorcycle manufacturers (4 domestic companies and 8 from abroad), 6 governments and 225 corporate parts manufacturers (187 from Japan and 6 governments and 38 companies from other countries), and 1 organization exhibiting electric vehicles. The Motor Show will occupy all 11 halls of the Makuhari Messe, a total exhibition floor space of approximately 45,000 square meters.
As has become common practice at all the major motor shows in recent years, cooperative exhibits will be grouped or arranged around corporate groups - the Toyota group, the Ford group, the GM group, and so on. Different brands under one corporate group will be displayed on a big booth, an arrangement appealing to visitors that reflects the cohesion and identity of each group.

Special Events: Focus on History of Technology
In the Event Hall (a 1,100-square-meter space) of the Makuhari Messe, the 35th Tokyo Motor Show will focus on automobile technology - an area where Japan is justifiably proud; many technologies in the form of actual vehicles and components will be on display that trace the evolution of the automobile. The Show will also feature a public forum "Talk-in," an event that was highly acclaimed at the Commercial Vehicle Show of the last year. Hoping to draw in visitors to the Show, the "Talk-in" event will be held while it is in progress on October 31 (Wednesday) at the Makuhari Prince Hotel, right next to the exhibition site.
