NEWSLETTER TO EXHIBITORS September 27, 2001
The 35th Tokyo Motor Show – Passenger Cars & Motorcycles – (2001)
Cancellation of Official Events and Special Guest Day for Wheelchair Users, Request for Low-key demonstrations, and Disaster-prevention Measures

At the JMIF’s board meeting of September 20, three decisions (items 1 – 3 below) were made.

1. Cancellation of Official Events

To express the JMIF’s sorrow for the many victims of the recent horrible incidents in the U.S. and its deepest condolences to the bereaved, the opening ceremony, the show tour by the patron, and the reception for this year’s motor show, scheduled for October 26 (Fri.), have been cancelled.
Regarding the overall schedule, the JMIF is going ahead with preparations to hold the show according to original plans: two Press Days on October 24 (Wed.) and 25 (Thu.); Special Guest Day on October 26 (Fri.), and public show days from October 27 (Sat.) to November 7 (Wed.). Please note that around early October the JMIF is sending invitations to those who were originally scheduled to be invited to these official events. With this invitation card, the guests may enter the show venue at 9:00 a.m. on October 26 (Fri.).

2. Cancellation of Special Guest Day for Wheelchair Users

The “Special Guest Day” for Wheelchair Users, scheduled for the afternoon of October 25 (Thu.), the second Press Day, has also been cancelled for security reasons.
This would have been the first event of its kind for the Tokyo Motor Show. The number of applicants totaled 234 people, and volunteers from exhibitors to support this event reached more than 200. The JMIF is deeply impressed with the volunteers’ spirit of helping other people.
The JMIF sent to all applicants and volunteers a letter to let them know about the cancellation on September 25. Enclosed were invitation tickets for the Show (three per applicant; two per volunteer) to express its heart-felt thanks.

3. Need for low-key demonstrations

Because of the recent tragic incidents in the U.S., all exhibitors are requested to refrain from showy demonstrations in terms of sound, performance, and costume. In particular, as far as the maximum sound volume is concerned, all exhibitors are requested to lower it down to 77dB(A), which is the maximum specified in the regulations for a Commercial Vehicle Show, from 80dB(A). Exhibitors’ cooperation in this regard would be highly appreciated.

4. Disaster-prevention measures at the time of moving-in

Against the backdrop of the terrorist attacks in the U.S, all exhibitors are requested to participate in the disaster-prevention training and briefing scheduled for the afternoon of October 16 (Tue.) in order to fortify security at the time of moving in. We strongly request that people in charge of disaster-prevention be present at the training and briefing. Details of the training and briefing will be notified separately.
