(1) Presentation Concept
We at Suzuki aspire to enrich the lifestyles of each one of our
customers through our products and services created with new ideas
and concepts. At the 34th Tokyo Motor Show, as for commercial
vehicles, we are exhibiting various vehicles created aimed at
fully providing the functions that are especially desired today,
not only for passenger cars but also for commercial vehicles ---
such as "convenience", "fun", and "low
environmental impact", --- and which also embody new values.
Suzuki, under our theme "Small Cars for a Big Future,"
has always focused on the role of small cars: in Japan, we have
maintained our No.1 position in sales of mini vehicles for 27
consecutive years.*1 In addition, our Carry mini truck has continued
to be the best-selling model in the all-truck segment in Japan
for 29 consecutive years.*2 We intend to continue to refine our
expertise in small cars -- including commercial vehicles -- and
create small cars designed with a global perspective and based
on our expectation that small cars have a "big future"
as commercial vehicles, as well as passenger vehicles.

(2) Presentation Theme
"Small Cars for a Big Future."
The vehicles on display represent our suggestions for small cars
that are compact yet functional, enjoyable and comfortable; that
is, small cars that can respond to people's demands for vehicles
that can be used as "tools" for casual, daily mobility
and that can expand the scope of business and leisure uses. The
highlight of our display are concept cars -- there cars embodying
themes of "gentleness", "fun" and "toughness"--
that represent our suggestions for small cars that "are very
helpful" and "expand the scope of daily lives". The
"gentle car" is created as a "welfare vehicle";
the "fun car" expresses functions for loading, transporting
and leisure use that are somewhat different from passenger cars;
the "toughness"car is focused on loading capabilities
and robust reliability -- the prime attributes demanded of commercial
vehicles. They and other displayed vehicles suggest how small cars
can open a big future.

Suzuki Pu3-commuter Passenger-Seat Wheelchair
Version
The Suzuki Pu3-commuter, a simple-to-use, two-seat small car which
also features environmentally friendly designs -- an automobile
with a scooter-like feel -- was highly acclaimed when it was exhibited
at the 33rd Tokyo Motor Show. The Pu3-commuter has a chassis structure
that accepts three different types of power units - a gasoline
engine, a hybrid system, or an electric motor - to meet a wide
range of user needs. For this Motor Show, based on the Suzuki
Pu3-commuter, we have taken its concept a step further and developed
and have on display a "Suzuki Pu3-commuter Passenger Seat
Wheelchair Version", a compact and user-friendly "welfare
vehicle". The passenger seat side door on this vehicle is
a slide type which provides a large opening area, and its specially
designed passenger seat doubles as a wheelchair for the elderly
and the handicapped, which means a person seated in this wheelchair
can get in the vehicle without getting off the wheelchair. We
believe this vehicle can be of much use both for household use
and for elderly-care businesses as convenient mobility for people
on wheelchairs. The specially designed wheelchair can be used
as an ordinary passenger seat just by electrically retracting
its wheels. The wheelchair is loaded onto the vehicle with a simple,
newly developed electric slide-arm type loading system. With this
system, ultrasonic sensors placed at two sections on both the
vehicle and the wheelchair measure the optimum position and angle
for loading the wheelchair, and inform the position and angle
to the caregiver with a display panel on the back of the passenger
seat, thus helping make sure the wheelchair is properly in its
place in the vehicle. In addition, by using this loading system
and the wheels of the wheelchair, it is possible to load a shopping
cart or a baby carriage, to meet a wide range of user needs. The
concept of Suzuki Pu3-commuter which this version was based on
was highly acclaimed: the vehicle become the winner of "Best
of Tokyo Motor Show"award. This award was sponsored by an
American automobile journal Automotive News International to be
given to the best concept car at the 33rd Tokyo Motor Show. The
Pu3-commuter won the award in recognition of its innovativeness,
design, environmentally friendly construction, and high possibility
as a potential production model.
Escudo XL
The Escudo, ever since it was marketed in 1988, has won high acclaims
in Japan and around the world as an urban-matched cross-country
vehicle designed with emphasis on superb running performance as
a cross-country model, and riding comfort as a passenger car.
The Escudo XL is a long-body version of the Escudo, with a longer
wheelbase and overall length. While brimming with the tastes of
Sports-Utility Vehicles(SUV) that are popular in
The 34th Tokyo Motor Show -Commercial Vehicles-(2000)
U.S.A., this model provides a generous luggage capacity for large
leisure equipment. The Escudo XL has its suspension -- built tough
and ready for rough roads on the base model -- adjusted to a "street"
style, "low-down" tuning, projecting a distinct presence
and composure, which, together with its black-purple body color
that changes its expression under different lights and an cabin
designed with sharp black and white contrasts, conveys a robust
and yet cool image. Also on the Escudo XL is a DVD system ready
for high-volume, high-fidelity music playing, with a dynamic range
of 144 dB and capacity of 100 kHz. The system also provides a
movie-theater-like 6-channel 3D-type audiovisual enjoyment, which
further enhances this vehicles's dynamic appeal.
Grand Vitara Pickup
This is a pickup version of the Grand Vitara(Escudo in Japan),
a sports-Utility Vehicle(SUV) that is popular in U.S.A. The wheelbase
has been extended, and at the rear section is a cargo bed. A double-cab
design provides a comfortable cabin space for five people. For
added ease of use, its "1+2 door" design -- a door on
the driver's side, two doors on the passenger side -- facilitates
getting on and off the rear seats. Its suspension is combined
with large 18-inch tires, composing a steady footed, robust, charging
image. Bright shining billet-steel grille and overfenders on the
outside and passionate red and black interior convey a wild and
dynamic image. The cargo bed is a sturdy deck-type floor to suit
casual use, and there's a box at the edge of the cargo bed for
tools, etc. Occupying the cargo bed of the displayed vehicle is
an All Terrain Vehicle(ATV) that are very popular in U.S.A. Of
course, the ATV is a Suzuki model. Thus Suzuki, with a global
perspective, is committed to providing fun and convenience not
only with automobiles but also with motorcycles and other vehicles.
Every Wagon SV
This is a special version of the Every Wagon, featuring original
aero front bumper, headlamp garnishes and roof-end spoiler which
projects a robust, dynamic image. The vehicle equips an "auto
step" which operates in conjuction with the opening/closing
of the left slide door, to make getting on and off the vehicle
easy -- an added touch of convenience that further enhances Every's
appeal as a van-type wagon.

Mini truck Carry specially equipped
versions
Mini commercial vehicle are mainly used daily for short-distance
transportation by small stores, small- and mid-sized factories
and offices, and as "work vehicles" by farms, etc. That
means commercial vehicles must be built economical, durable and
convenient to use. Since its debut in 1961, Suzuki's mini truck
Carry's domestic aggregate sales volume amounts to about 3,320,000
units, and it has continued to be the best-selling model in the
Japanese all-truck segment for 29 consecutive years -- testament
to the trust and popularity it has won from many customers. The
current Carry has a semi-cab-over type body layout with a front
hood and with front wheels positioned closer to the front edge
of the vehicle, and a 3-piece frame construction which helps create
a "lightweight shock-absorbing body" which realizes
a wide interior space together with a safer, impact-absorbing
structure. The Carry's cargo bed is designed with attention to
provide maximum space utility: the gate-lock handle are embedded
type, and the rear-gate chain (on Carry farm version) are retractable.
The Carry also has a "Drive-Select 4WD" mechanism (on
4-wheel-drive models) that allows shifting between 2WD and 4WD
while driving, a subtransmission that allows switching between
high and low speeds to facilitate drives over rough roads (on
4WD 5-speed manual transmission model), and a high-power, low-fuel-consumption
powerplant with an Electronic Fuel Injection(EFI) system. At this
Motor Show, we have on display a wide array of specially equipped
Carry models that are all currently available in the domestic
market.
Suzuki's Welfare Vehicle "With"
Series
Suzuki's current model lineup includes a wide choice of various
"welfare vehicles"; Wagon R Wheelchair-Compatible Version,
Wagon R Passenger-Seat Lift-Up Version, Wagon R Wheelchair-Compatible
Version with Rear Seats, and Every Rear-Seat Lift-Up Version.
Suzuki is introducing this lineup of welfare vehicles under the
simple name "With Series". "With", in other
words, "togetherness". The name reflects the user-friendliness
and easy-to-access nature of Suzuki's welfare vehicles.
Wagon R Wheelchair-Compatible Version(with
Rear Seats)
This is a 4-passenger version of the Wagon R "welfare vehicle"
series. The original Wagon R continues to be very popular for
its convenient design, use of getting on and off, etc; it has
been the top seller among mini vehicle models for four consecutive
years (1996 to 1999, researched by Suzuki from Japan Mini Vehicles
Association records). The vehicle is designed so that a passenger
on a wheelchair can get on and off the vehicle while seated in
the wheelchair by using a ramp built in to the vehicle's rear.
Then by securing the wheelchair with a belt, the passenger on
the wheelchair can be driven to and from the destination while
seated in the wheelchair. In this configuration, the vehicle seats
three: a driver, front passenger plus the passenger on the wheelchair.
When not transporting a passenger on a wheelchair, rear seats
can be put into place, making this vehicle a 4-seater. The rear
seats can be either folded or detached, for the convenience of
selecting the seating capacity matched to the number of passengers.
In addition, the vehicle comes with standard-equipment safety
features like air bags for both the driver's and front passenger's
seats, 4-wheel Anti-lock Brake System(ABS), along with a host
of also standard equipment convenient features including air conditioner,
power steering, power windows, power door locks, and key-less
entry (remote door locking/unlocking) mechanism.
Wagon R Passenger Seat Lift-Up Version
This version comes with an electric lift-up-and-down mechanism
on the front passenger seat, facilitating moving from the wheelchair
to the front passenger seat. Lifting the passenger seat up and
down is done by easy-to-use remote control; the passenger seat's
height from the ground can be adjusted in a wide range, from 470
to 644 mm, enabling smooth movement to the front seat for the
passenger on the wheelchair. To make getting on and off the vehicle
as smooth as possible, the front passenger side door opens a wide
77 degrees, and the top of the opened area is a high 840mm. For
a comfortable ride, the passenger seat is of a similar size as
that of the standard model, and arm rests (can be folded up when
not used) are provided for added comfort. Hooks and a belt to
mount and secure a folding-type wheelchair in the luggage compartments
is standard equipment.
Every Rear Seat Lift-Up Version
This is a welfare vehicle based on the cab-over van Every, which
features a roomy cabin and luggage space. An electric lift-up-and-down
mechanism for the left rear seat facilitates moving from the wheelchair
to the seat. As with the Wagon R Passenger Seat Lift-Up Version,
moving the seat up and down is by simple remote-control operation,
and the seat height can be adjusted to anywhere within the adjustment
range, to match the height of the wheelchair. The remote-control
switch has a magnet so that it can be placed on the vehicle's
body, to help make the work easier for the caregiver. The lifting
left-rear seat is equipped with a belt for securing the passenger's
chest section, with armrests, and specifically designed steps
-- all made keeping in mind the comfort and ease of the passenger.
Furthermore, this vehicle comes with various standard features
like air bags for the driver's and front passenger seats, 4-wheel
Anti-lock Braking System(ABS), air conditioner, stereo, power
steering, front power windows, power door locks, and a key-less
