Time Trip
to "Auto
mobiles in Japan: The first 100 years" - The 1999 Tokyo Motor Show happens to be about the 100th year since the automobile started to be driven in Japan. Also significant is the fact that this show is the last car & motorcycle show to be held in the 20th century. To commemorate this, the above theme has been adopted for the Theme Hall exhibition. A hundred years have passed since the automobile was first brought to Japan in the 31st year of Meiji (1898). Thanks to the efforts of Japan's automoive pioneers, the motor vehicle, which has made great contributions to Japan's post-war rehabilitation and the economic development that followed, has become a tool indispensable for our social lives. However, at the same time it has created a number of important social issues, including safety and the environment. This exhibition will present you "the first 100 years of motor vehicles in Japan" Period by period and cover the main theme of each epoch. It will provide an impressive retrospective with rare footage, including a display of actual cars.
