THE 33rd TOKYO MOTOR SHOW
The First "Passenger Car & Motorcycle Show"
Open to the Public on October 23
Japan Motor Industrial Federaton Inc. (JMIF-Chairman Yoshifumi Tsuji) will hold the 33rd Tokyo Motor Show for 13 days from October 22 (Fri) to November 3 (Wed, Holiday) at the Nippon Convention Center (Makuhari Messe), Makuhari, Chiba prefecuture.
The theme of the show is: "Eye to the future. Changing vehicles for the earth."
The general public days will be for 12 days starting from October 23 (Sat.) This is the first "Passenger Car and Motor Cycle Show" after moving the "Commercial Vehicle" section to a separate show.
Prior to the opening to the public there will be an opening ceremony at 10:00 am, October 22 (Friday) in the presence of There Imperial Highnesses Prince and Princess Tomohito of Mikasa, with the prince being the patron of the Tokyo Motor Show.
Participants: 294 exhibitors from 15 countries
In this show, 287 companies, six goverments and one assciation from 15 countries will particepate. It covers passenger cars, motorcycles, electric vehicles, and their related parts and equipment. It will be a showcase for state of the art technologies and products.
The show will be more internationalized in its nature with the inclusion of Luxembourg in the government pavilion section, joining Austria, Belgium, Canada, Germany, and the U.S.A.
It uses all of the Makuhari Messe facilities with an exhibition space of 45,394 m2 (48,693 m2 at the previous show)
Special Event -1. "Presentation of Automobiles in Japan: The first 100 years" in the Theme Hall
The 33rd Tokyo Motor Show happens to be about the 100th year since the sutomobile started to be driven in Japan. It is also significant that this show is the last car & motorcycle show to be driven in Japan. It is also significant that this show is the last car & motorcycle show to be held in the 20th century.
To commemorate this, the Theme Hall will present the history of the Japanese motor industry entitled: "Automobiles in Japan: The fiest 100 years - The Past as Headlights for the Future."
It will show how the motor industry has contributed greatly to industory in general, the economy, and the culture, by covering the main themes of each historical period, and providing an impressive retrospective with rare footage including a display of acutual cars.

Passenger cars: A display of 29 actual cars and a panel presentation of 61 cars
- Motorcycles: A display of 17 actual motorcycles and a panel presentation of 50 motorcycles
In addition, a Favorite CM/Catalog Corner will be provided. We hope you can enjoy the history of automobiles in Japan.
Special Event -2. Children's Car Drawings
This is the sixth year of the exhibit of children's drawings of cars, which began with the 28th motor show, when the venue was moved to Makuhari Messe.
To promote communication between the local children and the motor show, we offer an exhibet of drowings of Chiba City's 5-year-olds, with cooperarion from Chiba Prefecture, Chiba City, and the Municipal Kindergarten Association.
This year's themes are: "The car I want to ride - the car Ihave dreamed of," and "The car I want to ride in together with my friends or my family."
We are expecting to receive 3,000 submissions (up from 2,776 in the last show), all of which will be on display in the Central Mall area and Central Entrance area on the 2nd floor.
Electric Vehicle Trial Ride
To accommodate visitors, the EV trial-ride course will be moved to the West Rest Zone (3,470 m2) within the show grounds.
The trial ride will be made 5 minutes a day for cars and 4 times a day for motorcycles Each vehicle will be alternatively test ridden by the hour. Trial tickets will be distributed at the Information Counter in the electric vehicle exhibition stand in the Event Hall.
Multimedia Experience Corner
A personal computer corner offering visitors opportunities to experience the Internet and CD-ROM will be provided in the exhibition hall with cooperarion from PC makers.
In addition, a 16-screen multivision will be placed in the Center Hall to telecast cxhibitors booth scenes.
The Internet
To make the 33rd Tokyo Motor Show more innformative and widely enjoyable, a home page will be created on the Internet. Access to the home page will allow visitors enjoy an introduction to the exhibition halls, exhibited vehicles, concept cars, each exhibitor's booth, the Theme Hall guide, etc. with photos and music.

Automotive Guidebook of Japan 1999-2000 (Volume 46)
A new type of guidebook (writtone both in Japanese and in English) introduces 1,258 vehicles in photos and by specifications, containing 206 vehicles in color photos, and passenger cars, commercial vehicles, motorcicles and special purpose vehicles in the Catalog section. It also covers some new models which will be announced immediately before the 33rd Tokyo Motor Show.
Special color pages feature "Automobiles in Japan: The first 100 years" linked with the exhibition at the Theme Hall. It also includes information about activities of the Japanese and foregign automotive industries, various statistics, and directories of manufacuturers, sales companies, and various associations.
It will be on sale at the showgrounds and is accompanied with a supplement, "Concept Car a-la-Carte" about reference vehicles exhibited in the show.
"motor searcher 2000" (Automotive Guidebook CD-ROM)
At the opening of the motor show, the Automotive Guidebook of Japan CD-ROM will be put on sale within the showgrounds prior to the sale throughout Japan. The CD-ROM contains the Japanese models included in the 1999-2000 Guidebook and also major import models with video clips and a data base of their specifications and equipment information.
A comparison of two passenger cars can easily be done by using the selector function after establishing conditions: maker, price, and engine capacity of your choice. The price is 2,000 yen (including tax).
Facilities
To accommodate visitors from nearby hotels, the East Gate will be open to provide easy access.
In order for visitors to safety enjoy the show, endeavors will be made to provide service facilities such as rest zones, retaurants and stands, information services, coin lockers, parcel delivery, cashing corners, medical service centers, and a post office.
A baby/child care center will be set up again in the Event Hall to provide an area for families with babies or youg children. The center will be staffed by full-time nurses to care for 3-6 year-old children for a maximum 2 hours.
Show Hours
On weekdays: 10:00 am - 7:00 pm, and on Saturdays and holidays: 9:30 am-7:00 pm, and holidays: 9:30 am-7:00 pm. Opening hours will be advanced by 30 minutes to ease congestion.
Advanced Admission Tickets and Discounted Admission Tickets (after 16:00)
Prices of admissoin tickets are the same as for the previous show: 1,200 yen for adults (including high school students), and 600 yen for primaty and middole school students. Advanced tickets are 1,000 yen for adults and 500 yen for middle and primary students through JR Higashi Nihon, ticket outlets, convenience stores, and travel agencies until October 22.
Discouted tickets will be sold for admission after 4:00 p.m. We recommend viewing the show at this time since it is much less crowded (even on Saturdays and holidays). The tickets will be sold at the showgrounds and are 1,000 yen for adults and 500 yen for primary and middle school students.
