The S-TYPE reproduces the characteristics of Jaguar at the time by accenting the body design with curves in reflection of the "abundance of beauty and originality" that is associated with the core marque value of Jaguar, giving it originality that sets it apart from the others. In a worldwide marketing clinic held prior to its styling debut, nearly all persons surveyed recognized the S-TYPE to be a Jaguar even though the Jaguar badge was concealed.
This S-TYPE is equipped with numerous items that respond to demands for convenience from customers of this class, including a satellite navigation system incorporated in the dashboard for the first time in a Jaguar product, air-conditioning system with side to side temperature control, and split-folding rear seats (6:4). In addition, a function has been developed that allows voice activation for telephone, audio system and air-conditioning for the first time in a volume-produced model. With the exception of the telephone, voice activation for air-conditioning and audio systems are scheduled to be used in Japan as well in the future.
In addition to the existing 4-litre, V8 engine, a newly developed 238 DINps, 3-litre V6 engine is also available. The three models such as 3.0-litre, V6, V6 SE and 4.0-litre V8 are available in Japan, and prices start at under 6 million yen (5,780,000 yen).
Jaguar XJ Executive 3.2-V8 (6,990,000 yen)
The XJ Executive 3.2-V8 is equipped with an new short-stroke 3.2-litre V8 engine generating 240 DINps and uses the ZF-made 5-speed automatic transmission. As a result, approximately 11 percent more power is yielded than the conventional 3.2-litre, straight-6 engine, resulting in specifications comparable to our previous 4.0-litre engines. In addition to the resulting nimble and responsive driving performance, standard equipment such as electric, fully-automatic climate control, electronically controlled stability control, side air bags and aluminum wheels give the XJ Executive 3.2-V8 outstanding value for the money as an entry model.
In addition to providing traction control and rear seat cigarette lighters as standard equipment, the new model uses the ABS Plus braking system for improved braking performance at high speeds. The exterior design features luxurious, fully chromed side window surround and newly designed (Corona) alloy wheels.
Jaguar XJR 4.0 Supercharged V8 (10,990,0000 yen)
The XJR 4.0 Supercharged V8, equipped with a supercharged 4.0-litre V8 engine generating the next highest output of 370 DINps after the XKR, is positioned as the flagship model of the V8 XJ series in terms of its performance. The use of MBW 5A5810 type 5-speed automatic transmission to stand up to the high output, CATS (Computer Active Technology Suspension) with electronically controlled adaptive dampers, the P Zero system and 18-inch aluminum wheels provide the ultimate in handling, stability, steering The new models is provided with the AJ27 engine, featuring refinements throughout all parts of the engine, and the ABS Plus braking system for improved braking performance at high speeds. It also features a heated rear seat, rain-sensitive automatic wipers and rear seat cigarette lighters as standard equipment, while also employing new alloy wheels (Asteroid).
Daimler Super V8 (12,990,000 yen)
The Daimler name boasts the longest history among existing British cars, going back some 100 years, having continuously been associated with the royal family and providing special royal vehicles and vehicles for official business. The Daimler Super V8 has been positioned as the flagship model of the V8 XJ series, being equipped with a new supercharged 4.0-litre V8 engine generating 370 DINps. This high level of performance is superbly combined with Daimler's luxurious specifications as represented by the long wheelbase coach work, wood panels using burr walnut materials and power rear twin seats containing built-in seat heaters available as a manufacturer's option, providing the owner with the ultimate blend of luxury and high performance. In addition, Computer Active Technology Suspension (CATS) is provided as standard equipment that adjusts the ride to obtain optimum comfort. The new model employs the AJ27 engine featuring refinements throughout all parts of the engine and ABS Plus for improved braking performance at high speeds as in the XJR. The Daimler Super V8 is also provided with rain-sensitive automatic wipers as standard equipment.
XKR Convertible (12,900,000 yen)
The XKR is an ultra-high-performance sports car powered by the 4.0-litre, 90-degree V8, 32-valve engine installed in the XK8 supercharged with an "Eaton M112" supercharger equipped with a water-cooled twin intercoolers. Maximum output is 375 DINps, corresponding to a 28 percent increase over the normal aspiration model, while maximum torque reaches 53.5 DINkg-m, corresponding to an increase of 33 percent. A five-speed automatic transmission jointly developed with the ZF Ind. is used for the transmission.
In addition, the specifications of the suspension, steering, brakes and tires have all been changed to rationalize the high driving performance. For suspensions and tires, the XKR Convertible is equipped with Jaguar's CATS (Computer Active Technology Suspension), 18-inch exclusive aluminum wheels and the Pirelli "P Zero system" tyres.
The all-aluminum cylinder block has been redesigned at Jaguar's development centre to handle the pressure applied by the supercharger, and has successfully been made tougher and lighter. Exterior features include a mesh grille for the front air intake, twin louvers on the hood, spoiler on the trunk lid and exclusively designed 18-inch aluminum wheels.
The XK8 series, on which the XKR Convertible is based, was developed and marketed in 1996 as the first genuine sports car released by Jaguar in 21 years. This model is characterized by its streamlined body styling that won numerous awards for its attractive appearance ever since its release. A 2-door coupe is also available in addition to the convertible.
The new model features changes that include the use of ABS Plus for improved braking performed at high speeds, a DVD navigation system (with VICS and TV functions) and an increase in the number of audio speakers from 4 to 6. Rain-sensitive automatic wipers and a storage net inside the trunk are all provided as standard features.
XK 180 (Concept sport Car)
The XK 180 concept sport car, making its first appearance in Japan, is derived from a computer-simulated maximum speed of as much as 180 mph (approximately 290 km/h). Jaguar's Special Vehicle Operation (SVO), which was in charge of production of the XK 180, is comprised primarily of the team that had hand-made the Daimler DS420 Limousine until the first part of the 1990's, and was established following completion of its production.
