With day two of the 32nd Tokyo Motor Show falling on a Sunday, families and couples were the predominant visitors today. Exhibits visitors can look at, touch and operate in this Motor Show. Many families enjoyed these exhibits, not only looking at the displayed vehicles, but also watching the various performances, unforgettable movies and classical cars. This activity marked a change in the way the show is observed by visitors.
In spite of the large number of visitors, the atmosphere at Makuhari Messe was relaxed due to expansion of display areas to the second floor.

Nissan's theme at this show is, "Becoming even more Nissan," and it aims to be both "environment-friendly and a joy to drive" by proposing near future styling and the latest power-train technology, focusing on its concept cars. Many visitors enjoyed the live DJ and dancers. While on the other side of the booth the squarish 1300cc CUBE wagon, a next generation ultra-basic car based on the March and slated to hit the market in February, gained popularity with young women in their teens and twenties because of its brilliant body color. Among the four concept vehicles, the Hypermini, a two seater, everyday, ultra-subcompact electric car which can be driven like a bicycle is the most realistic. Since it has already passed the modified minicar collision safety standard that will be released next October, it is expected to be marketed as a city-use car for running around 70 km per day.

The Stylish6 is gaining popularity as a futuristic utility wagon not only for its original design, but also for it combination parallel hybrid system with direct injection gasoline engine, electric motor and CVT (Continuously Variable Transmission). When asked whether there were any differences with other hybrid vehicles, the person in charge replied, "The CVT ensures smooth driving." The AL-X features a parallel hybrid system and light and tough body thanks to the aluminum space frame construction. It is both environment-friendly and fun to drive. The forward-looking 4WD TRAILRUNNER sports coupe is gaining popularity as something youth can use to express their lifestyle.
Nissan's most powerful exhibition is the environment and technology are a found on the second floor, which visually introduces the world's first parallel hybrid system with direct injection gasoline engine, electric motor and CVT (displacement 2000cc class). Foreign people, especially, are interested in this hybrid system since it is to be mounted in a series of new products.

Porsche AG begins its push to accelerate Japanese sales by establishing Porsche Japan. 6 models, including the Boxster, were on display. The long proud tradition of air-cooled flat six-cylinder engines is now limited to the 911 Turbo (code name 993). The Boxster and the new "ELF", the 911, which will hit the Japanese market soon, are the first Porsches with water-cooled flat six-cylinder power units. These new power units feature smooth running, areduction in fuel consumption and excellent use of space. Porsche is pursuing a rational and realistic design; for example, Porsche's 2+2 seat layout was based on statistics regarding an actual driving style. They are focusing on the value and possibility of sports car as tools for increasing humankind's capability.

Makuhari Messe celebrates
its 50 millionth visitor
One of the greatest international exhibition halls, Makuhari Messe, welcomed its 50 millionth visitor from its opening in 1989 with a presentation ceremony in the Central Plaza of the International Exhibition Hall at 10:30 a.m. The first person to pass through each of the five gates once the 50 million mark was reached, for example Ms. Asaka Watanabe of Nerima-ku, Tokyo, were presented memorial cards from Mr. Takeshi Numata, Governor of Chiba Prefecture, and two kinds of memorial gifts from Mr. Yoshiho Shimomura, Executive Managing Director, Nippon Convention Center, Inc. and JMIF, organizer of this motor show.

BAY FM has set up a remote studio in the Multimedia Experience corner on the second floor of the North Hall, and has a live five minute broadcast each day. Today, the first day of broadcasting, Mr. Yoshio Komiya, Executive Managing Director of the JMIF appeared on stage and answered questions from the DJ. The live performance was broadcasted for 5 minutes at 10:25 a.m. The title of this program is "The Tokyo Motor Show Update".
