Theme and Logo Mark Decided
for 36th Tokyo Motor Show Commercial Vehicles (2002)
June 20, 2002
The Japan Automobile Manufacturers Association
(JAMA; Chairman: Yoshihide Munekuni) has decided on the theme
and logo mark for the 36th Tokyo Motor Show - Commercial
Vehicles - (2002), to be held at Makuhari Messe (Nippon
Convention Center) in Chiba City, Chiba Prefecture, from October
29 (Tuesday) to November 3 (Sunday), 2002.
This years show will be the first Tokyo
Motor Show to be held since the merging of JAMA and the Japan
Motor Industrial Federation (JMIF). It will also be the second
Commercial Vehicle Show since the Tokyo Motor Show was divided
into two categories; Passenger Vehicles and Motorcycles
and Commercial Vehicles.
Theme
The theme of this years show will be Sense the Evolution
- Commercial Vehicles on Stage.
The intent of this theme is to express the image of the continuing
evolution in the automobile industry, and to generate a sense
of the constant progress in commercial vehicle technologies.
The expression on stage was used to convey the role of the
Show as a venue for interactions among the exhibitors, users,
and visitors that gather there.
Logo Mark
The logo mark for this years Show, which adopts and expands
upon the image of the logo mark of the 34th Tokyo Motor Show
- Commercial Vehicles - (2000), aims to project an image of
the Commercial Vehicles Show as an even more familiar venue.
As in the case of the 34th Tokyo Motor Show logo, the design
for the new one was developed by Creative Director Masahiko
Sato and Art Director Norio Nakamura. This logo expands upon
the block letter image combining multi-layered characters
that made the logo mark for the 2000 Show so unique.

According to the data as of May 31, 106
companies, two governments, and two organizations from seven
countries including Japan will participate in this years
Show, which will use Makuhari Messes exhibition halls of
1 to 8 as well as outdoor exhibition space. The total area
of the exhibition venue (indoor) is about 25,000 m2, which
is a scale roughly equivalent to the previous Commercial Vehicles
show (the 34th Show).
The exhibition venue layout has been designed
with consideration to unity and collective space for corporate
groups, with commercial vehicle sections located on the south
side of the halls, and commercial vehicle body sections located
on the north side, ensuring easier viewing for visitors.
This years show will include the Commercial
Vehicle Test-rides as well as a symposium, Talk-in 2002,
both of which received such an excellent response during the
previous show (the 34th Show). In addition, at the Commercial
Vehicles Supporting Lifestyles Corner, visitors can see and
touch rare commercial vehicles that would otherwise not be
accessible to the public.
In addition to displays of the latest vehicle models, the
36th Tokyo Motor Show will offer a full range of special exhibits,
including the Vintage Commercial Vehicle Corner, featuring
classic vehicles from the 1930s to the 1970s.
