The GM group,
including partners Fuji Heavy Industries
and Suzuki, occupies most of the East Hall.
Isuzu has its booth in one corner, and
has managed to squeeze in 8 SUVs. They
are wider and taller than normal sedans,
and you can see them from a long way off,
their "
powerful" designs expressing new concepts
and ideas for the genre.
TIsuzu's theme this year is "Go Farther.
-farther than anyone
else," and its 4 distinctive concept
cars will propel you forward
into the new world of the SUV. The "Z.E.N" is
a crossover
vehicle that combines the fun of an SUV
with the functionality
of a commercial vehicle. Fun details include
a tailgate styled
like a "shoji," sliding Japanese
door, ideal for viewing scenery,
and the rear seat can be folded up to put
the car into "room
mode." Just bring out the special
tatami and bamboo floor mat
for all the comforts of home. This unique
idea of incorporating
the essence of Japanese "wa" in
an SUV has been popular with
the foreign visitors as well, and you will
see many intrigued
foreigners snapping pictures of the car.
The "GBX," featuring a design
motif inspired by the stage
coaches that opened up the West, and the "AXIOM" for
more
traditional SUV fans are both attracting
visitors.
While not a SUV, Isuzu's "BEGIN FUNKYBOX" is
an off beat
concept model based on a delivery van and
featuring flexible
arrangement possibilities for its large
cargo space.
Don't forget to check out the technology
corner at this booth.
Isuzu has its "Next-generation ultra-clean
diesel engine" on
display. The engines will easily clear
the next European diesel
engine emission standards scheduled for
introduction around
2005. Isuzu is a company that takes environment
and pollution
seriously and has produced meaningful results
in this area. |
