Rolls-Royce has only one car on
display, the ultra-opulent "Park
Ward Personal Commisioning." The
Park Ward is based on the Silver
Seraph, but extends it 250 mm in
the rear to provide more comfort
in the back seats. This is an order
made, limited edition car that
the company will specially equipped
to meet any conceivable requirements
the customer may have, thus the "Personal
Commisioning" part of the
name. Rolls-Royce prides itself
on being the world's top manufacturer
of super luxury cars, and will
spare no expense in meeting its
customers' requirements and ensuring
their satisfaction. As the man
in the booth says, "We can
beat the Mercedes Maybach any day." Audible
sighs come from the visitors as
they gaze on one of the most expensive
cars in the world.
The Champion at Le Mans came back.
Bentley's third-place finish and
class win in the Le Mans 2001 24-hour
race marked its first time on the
podium in 71 years. While perhaps
no car goes as well with British
green as the Bentley, the Le Mans
triumph proves that the Bentley
brand is more than just past glory.
The turbocharged V-8 engine, with
300 kW and 800 Nm or more horsepower
torque easily moves the large,
high-tech-packed body to create
a super car that can go up against
anything in its class. Its bold,
regal styling belies the car's
incredibly low air resistance,
to create a saloon that meets every
expectation of its owner-drivers.
What
more could you want?
The "Arnage
Red Label" and "Continental-T
Mulliner" line up with
the "EXP Speed 8."
General
Motors – Sharing space with visitors "The
GM Experience"
The GM booth features that ever-popular
symbol of the American automobile,
the luxury sedan. As you enter
the black and silver booth, you'll
see the "Seville STS" and
the " DeVille DHS," but
what really catches the eye is
the " Cadillac Vizon." The
edges are stronger and the car
has a more powerful feeling, while
still retaining its Cadillac classiness.
American cars tend to keep the
same chassis and change only the
exterior, but the "Cadillac
CTS" is a completely new development.
Its square, progressive styling
and unusually small size (4840
mm total length) for a Cadillac
have attracted a great deal of
interest and comment among visitors,
many of whom ponder the possibility
that the Cadillac brand could be
with in reach. This is certain
to be a much-anticipated launch.
The right
hand steering "Cadillac
CTS" is on stand by for
launch in Japan..
Lotus – Popular
super car among young people
The Lotus is famous for being
the " best handling machine" on
the road, and visitors took the
chance to view its unique designs.
The reverent gazes of the young
visitors were particularly impressive.
Japan
has also waited a long time
for the "New Elise."
Opel – Eager
to target the Japanese market
The gull-winged "OPC X-Treme" is
the next evolution in the DTM " Astra
Coupe V8" and an object of intense
interest among visitors. Opel also has
the "Frogster," a cross between
a 2-seat roadster and a pickup truck, on
display, as well as the "Speedster," its
first entry into the midship market. All
of these are attractive reference models
with clearly articulated concepts, and
Opel's narrators are impressive in their
ability to capture people's attention with
easily understood explanations. The company
also has some sporty marketed models on
display in addition to the reference cars,
successfully making its case for the "Dynamic
Driving" of Opel.
The "Astra
Coupe OPC X-Treme" is a racing
car approved for ordinary roads.
Peugeot – Clean
and elegant
The PSA (Peugeot/Citroen) group
has achieved enormous popularity
in Japan, with the Peugeot 206
series. This year's exhibit focuses
on the new 307 series that will
be launched in Japan this fall.
The station wagon reference exhibit
is drawing visitors as well, and
Peugeot's video presentations emphasize
the roominess and elegance of its
cars, not just their sporty styling.
Peugeot has chosen two models from
its familiar 206 series for display.
The "206CC" (Coupe & Cabriolet)
is the first model in the world
to use an electric-powered metal
top, and a continuation of Peugeot's
history of innovation. There is
also a WRC (World Rally Championship)
spec model on hand.
The "307" is
the latest style innovation
from Peugeot.
Saab – The
perfect fusion of advanced and practical
Saab drivers are famously passionate about
their cars, and this company's unique,
unyielding technology philosophy can be
seen right down to the ignition keys on
console. The "9X" symbolizes
the Saab point of view as a multipurpose
vehicle that can transform itself into
a 4-seat coupe, roadster, station wagon
or pick-up truck, as circumstances require.
The perfect fusion of high technology and
practicality, it makes the Saab case like
nothing else could. The Saab "9-5" features
a completely redesigned exterior and interior
to show the modernity.
The Saab "9X" multipurpose
concept car can transform right before
your eyes.
Volks Wagen – High
Technology in Friendly Packages
Volkswagen crowds a lot into its booth:
the "New Beetle," already well
known and extraordinarily popular in Japan;
the "Lupo" that just debuted;
the new, compact "Polo" and the "Golf/Golf
Wagon" with its ESP safety technology. In
the center is the very same " W12
Coupe Prototype" that just set a world
record on October 14 for traveling at an
average speed of 295.24 km/h for 24 hours,
an extraordinary demonstration of Volkswagen
technology. The "New Passat" represents
a further refinement the company's W8 (4
liter) engine. Last year, Volkswagen unveiled an
original 12 cylinder W engine (two V engines
combined in a V shape) in a Tokyo Motor
Show concept car, and this year, the technology
comes down to earth in 8 cylinder configuration.
Though still a reference exhibit, the "New
Passat" seems an excellent choice
for the engine. Also on display was the "New
Beetle RSi." Only 45 have been delivered
to Japan (only 250 around the world) and
there is a long list just to get into the
drawing to purchase this limited edition "Super
Beetle" with its narrow angle 24 valve,V6,
3.2 liter engine, "4 Motion" full-time
4WD system, and aerodynamic styling.
