Audi Stand Highlights at the 37th Tokyo Motor Show
At the 37th Tokyo Motor Show, Audi expresses its sporty, progressive and sophisticated world based on its philosophy of "Vorsprung durch Technik" (Advancement through Technology). The exhibit will convey this essence of the DNA of Dr. August Horch, the founding father of the Brand who created the company in 1899.

The stand’s concept is "Human Motion", and the booth’s unifying orange color exudes a sense of human warmth, while the architectural design evokes the feeling of motion and evolution in the soul. Bands of plasma displays will convey image and text messages about the Audi product on display.

Two feature models are the Audi Le Mans quattro, a concept car that was first introduced at the IAA (International Motor Show) in Frankfurt, and the Audi Pikes Peak quattro, a concept car first shown at the North American International Auto Show in Detroit. Another highlight of this year’s Audi stand is the new A8, Audi's flagship model that goes on sale in Japan from next spring. All of these cars demonstrate the future direction of Audi design.

quattro GmbH, a subsidiary of AUDI AG, will have a corner for "Audi Exclusive", an individualization program for providing tailor-made Audi cars to customers. In addition to Audi Exclusive spec models, exhibits of special exterior and interior colors and trims will be featured.

Exhibit Model Highlights
Audi Le Mans quattro (concept car)

Audi Le Mans quattro, is concept car that was first unveiled at the Frankfurt IAA (International Motor Show) in September. A two-seater high performance mid-engine sports car, the Le Mans quattro takes on the genes of the Audi R8 that won the Le Mans 24-hour endurance race three years in a row. This model is powered by a 5.0 liter V10 DOHC bi-turbo engine that uses FSI gasoline direct injection technology whose performance was proven in the R8. It generates a maximum output of 610ps/6,800rpm and maximum torque of 750Nm/1,750 to 5,800rpm, accelerating the car from zero to 100km/h in only 3.7 seconds. Driven by quattro (Audi? permanent road-gripping 4WD system), the ASF aluminum body weighs 1,530kg with a distribution of 40:60, front to rear. The front design reflects Audi's characteristic single-frame grille concept with large air intakes on both sides, with LED headlights covered in clear glass.

Audi Pikes Peak quattro (concept car)

The Audi Pikes Peak quattro is a concept model first shown at this year's North American International Auto Show. It is designed for on-road and off-road driving, and derives its name from the Pikes Peak International Hill Climbing race in the U.S., which was won 16 years ago by Walter Rohrl driving an Audi Sports quattro S1. The Audi Pikes Peak quattro has more varied characters than the Sports quattro that reigned in world rally races. It uniquely melds the power of the legendary Audi quattro and the refined characteristics of Audi production models, to create a crossover vehicle that is progressive in every sense. Its bi-turbo V8 FSI engine generates a powerful maximum output of 500ps, and variable ground clearance adaptive air suspension with quattro makes for excellent off-road drive performance. Finally, the Pikes Peak quattro? polished styling gives it character that clearly separates it from ordinary SUV models.

Audi TT Coupe 3.2 quattro (Audi exclusive version)

The Audi TT, which takes its initials from "Tourist Trophy" - the legendary motor sports event held in Isle of Man in Britain - is a model that has established fame of its own with its unique design, which created a new paradigm in car design. As the flagship of the TT model line up, the Audi TT Coupe 3.2 quattro features a new 24-valve, V6 3.2-liter engine generating a maximum output of 250ps, and also adopts the innovative transmission technology DSG (Direct Shift Gearbox). The DSG combines the strong points of the traditional six-speed manual gearbox and the convenience of an automatic transmission for agile driving without interrupting the flow of power during shift changes.

Audi S4 Avant

The Audi S4 Avant is the high performance model for the Audi A4 family. It inherits the S model tradition of great performance without being flashy; the S4's special sports character is expressed by its powerful front grille, aluminum outside rear view mirror housing and 18-inch Avus-design aluminum wheel. A new V8 DOHC (five valves per cylinder) 4.2-liter engine has been created exclusively for the S4, generating a maximum output of 253kW (344ps) and maximum torque of 410Nm (41.8kgm). Furthermore, a newly developed six-speed Tiptronic transmission, quattro permanent 4WD and sports-tuned high performance suspension make for an outstanding driving performance. The new S4 is a model that blends the technological highlights of the Audi brand, while achieving the comfort and convenience for use as an "eryday sports car".

Technology Exhibit: RS6 Engine

The 4.2-liter V8 DOHC bi-turbo engine created for the Audi RS6 generates a maximum output of 450ps (331kW) at 5,700 to 6,400rpm and a maximum torque of 560Nm in an astonishing rpm range of 1,950 to 5,600. The secret of the outstanding power is the twin-turbo chargers; twin inter-coolers optimize the super charge efficiency. The engine block is made of aluminum, with five valves per cylinder; three valves on the intake side and two on the exhaust side with locker bearing type locker arm lay out. The intake and exhaust ports have been tuned for ultimate power, and the air duct design has been designed for optimized intake and exhaust with twin-turbo chargers. Finally, the water-cooling system has been closely studied for best heat dissipation characteristics in relation to the combustion chamber and valve layout.
