About the Mercedes-Benz Stand
Harmony with the environment is underscored at the Mercedes stand, which has been designed especially for this first Tokyo Motor Show of the new century. The intent is unmistakable, for example by the use of bamboo for floor material. The stand has two levels to provide enough space to display a number of vehicles and technical innovation. We are sure that the Mercedes stand will let you delightfully experience the newcentury Mercedes.
Highlights of vehicles on display
  • SL500(new model to be launched soon)
The top-of-the-line Mercedes SL-Class roadster has been fully restyled for the first time in 12 years. The fifth generation of this successful Mercedes series sets new standards in driving dynamics and active safety by offering elegant body styling and a range of cutting-edge technical innovations. The styling of the new SL-Class captures the spirit of the legendary 300 SL. And in so doing, it points the way to the future for premium sports cars by incorporating refreshing and dynamic design elements, including for example, the twin ellipsoid headlamp face, a hallmark of modern Mercedes cars. Another innovation which comes as standard equipment in the new SL-Class is the upgraded vario-roof, which transforms the roadster into a couple in just 16 seconds.
The most important highlight in the new SL roadster is the Sensotronic Brake Control(SBC). SBC uses advanced electronics to control brake pressure, allowing the brakes to be applied more quickly and thus shortening the stopping distance. Also, it ensures body stability during braking by individually optimizing the brake force for each wheel. The Active Body Control suspension contributes to the dynamic driving of the new SL-Class. The active suspension system, which is also available in the S600L, S55 AMG, and CL-Class, automatically reduces pitching and rolling, thus resolving the conflict of interests in terms of dynamic driving and comfort. The new SL roadster is powered by a five-liter V8 SOHC engine. The V8 power plan boasts outstanding fuel economy thanks to substantial weight reduction achieved by the generous use of lightweight, high-strength materials such as aluminum and magnesium, and a remarkable Cd value of 0.29.
