All-new Pajero Rally Car
(2000 Dakar Rally Version)

On display is the rally version of the New Pajero, which has undergone a full model change that aims to place it as "The Car", a product worthy of being labelled a luxury passenger car. Of course, we have tapped the maximum potential of this rally version in preparing it to compete in the Paris-Dakar-Cairo Rally in January 2000. The highly rigid monocoque body is paired with a specially tuned version of the responsive 3.5-litre V6 MIVEC engine that is a successor to the legendary powerplant used in the Pajero Evolution. The 4-wheel independent double wishbone suspension has also been tuned to deliver even better performance.

Lancer Evolution VI
(WRC Monte Cario Rally winner)

The WRC (World Rally Championship) series is marked by fierce competition as the respective makers jostle to establish their names. And Mitsubishi continues to perform in a manner that gives pride to the name, even as the speed of these fierce rally events grows faster by the year. The Lancer Evolution VI on display at this show was entered in the 1999 WRC series. It is powered by the Mitsubishi 4G63 2.0-litre DOHC 16-valve engine that produces 290 horsepower of highly responsive power. A newly developed active 4WD drivetrain achieves a high new level of balance that includes cornering performance and traction on all surfaces. The Lancer Evolution rally version leaves the competition behind in a cloud of dust.

New Technologies Area

Environmentally friendly GDI Engine-sales top 600,000* units !
The superior fuel economy and high performance of Mitsubishi's own GDI (in-cylinder direct injection) engine has garnered praise from around the world, and this has helped us already sell 600,000 cars equipped with GDI technology. The lineup has expanded to include displacements from 0.66-litre to 4.5-litre as we continue to evolve the technology, and the GDI engine already clears the new fuel economy standards for the year 2010. Keep an eye on the GDI lineup as we enter a new era !

*As of September 15,1999

GDI-Sigma series of integrated powertrains
DGI-Sigma technology harnesses the inherent strengths of the environmentally friendly GDI engine and integrates them with other advanced technologies to produce the new GDI-Sigma series of powertrains that maximise fuel economy. These include the GDI HEV compact hybrid system. GDI-CVT with synchronised control over the engine and CVT, GDI-ASG idling-stop system, and GDI-GPT that features a highly responsive and fuel efficient turbocharger.

MFCV (Mitsubishi Fuel Cell Vehicle)
This clean energy vehicle of the future is powered by electricity that is generated using a chemical reaction between hydrogen and oxygen. Working together, Mitsubishi Motors and Mitsubishi Heavy Industries have successfully developed our own compact fuel cell system. This advance makes it possible to store the system under the floor and leave plenty of space to design a roomy interior and ample storage space. The system also functions as a silent and clean electric generator that can be applied to a number of uses when the vehicle is stopped. MFCV has the potential to open up a variety of new possibilities for a new generation of cars, so don't be surprised if you hear more about it in the near future.

Active safety technologies for accident prevention
Mitsubishi introduces our newly developed "driver support system", an active safety system that helps the driver to avoid accidents. The system supports the driver to avoid lane drift, to make lane changes, and to maintain vehicle speed and proper distance between oneself and the vehicle in front. Of course, we are also developing technologies that support use of the ITS (Intelligent Traffic System) that many hold expectations for in the 21st century, as well as ASV (Advanced Safety Vehicle) technologies. And we are introducing these technologies for the near future at the show.

Collision-safe RISE body
Mitsubishi's RISE (Realized Impact Safety Evolution) body integrates a rigid cabin structure and high impact-energy absorbing front and rear sections in to a single unit that effectively absorbs and diffuses impact energy from any angle to protect all occupants in the event an accident occurs. The RISE body is already in use on a number of Mitsubishi cars and has earned high acclaim as an essential passive safety technology.
