CL600(reference vehicle)
CL600Lika the S-class sedan, the Mercedes-Benz CL is a flagship model of the Stuttgart-based manufacturer. In addition to achieving substantial weight savings for even greater motoring pleasure, the top-of-the-line luxury coupé features a number of innovations to open up a completely new dimension of driving. One of the technical highlights in the CL coupé is the newly developed Active Body Control system. Using sensors, the system monitors body movements and actively controls springing and damping as a function of the driving situation. Active Body Control reduces vibrations and roll produced when starting off, cornering, and braking, thereby improving ride comfort and handling stability even further.

The styling of the CL coupé features innovative design elements that underline the coupé 's elegant and sporty character. The distinctive front end with twin headlamps, the roofline forming a stretched arch, and the newly designed wrap-around panoramic rear windscreen - all these emphasize the refreshing dynamic appearance of the coupé .
The new CL coupé offers a choice of two engines; the proven 5.0-liter SOHC V8 and the newly developed 5.8-liter SOHC V12 unit. Thanks to modern construction and the use of lighteight, highly rigid materials such as aluminum and magnesium, the V12 engine's weight has been reduced by about 22% compared with the previous 12-cylinder engine. Fuel efficiency has been improved with the introduction of modern three-valve technology and the automatic cylinder cutout system, which cuts off fuel supply to an entire cylinder bank.

E240/E320 Stationwagon Avantgarde
Since 1995, Mercedes-Benz has shipped more than one million E-class cars. Recently we have renovated the exterior/interior design and equipment of both sedans and stationwagons of this series. The exterior of the new E-class features more dynamic styling, and this is particularly revealing in the radiator grille, bumpers at front and rear, and rear combination lamps. The standard equipment of the upgraded E-class models includes a number of innovations. The Electronic Stability Program always maintains a stable body position even on slippery surfaces or during avoidance maneuvers. The tip-shift system allows the driver to select individual gears of the transmission by nudging the select lever left or right in the D position. The multi-function steering wheel enables the driver to operate various controls without having to take his or her hands off the wheel.

A190 Avantgarde
A190 AvantgardeThe A190 Avantgarde is the new top model of the Mercedes-Benz A-class, the innovative subcompact car that has found favor with the world's drivers by offering a spacious interior and high levels of safety. Despite its small size, the newly developed 1.9-liter four-cylinder SOHC engine develops high power and outstanding torque. The new A-class model is fitted with a number of feature that ensure high standards of safety and sporty driving dynamics. These include 16-inch alloy wheeis with 195/50R16 tires, front and rear disc-brakes, the Electronic Stability Prgram, ABS, and Brake Assist.

NECAR - further progress in fuel cell vehicle engineering
Engineers from the DaimlerChryslerresearch team are working intensively on fuel cell vehicles as part of their project to develop "environmentally friendly vehicles". Fuel cell vehicles have the greatest development potential of all forms of alternative propulsion. They have higher efficiency than the combustion system and can be tanked up with various fuels such as methanol and hydrogen, which can also be produced by regeneration. As additional advantage is the ultra-low emission level. When fueled with hydrogen, the system emits no pollutants at all. In the NECAR concept study on display, the reformer, which produces the necessary hydrogen from methanol on board the vehicle, is integrated into the sandwich floor of the A-class. The fuel cell technology, which generates electricity to power the vehicle from a chemical reaction between the onboard hydrogen and atmospheric oxygen, is also housed beneath the passenger compartment. The electric motor is located beneath the hood, while the methanol tank is accommodated under the rear luggage room. This means that the A-class fuel cell vehicle offers just as much room as the standard version.

Formula One (McLaren MP4-14/Mercedes-Benz)
Formula OneDriven by the Mercedes FO110H four-valve V10 engine with a displacement of 2,998 cc, the McLaren MP4-14 has fiercely fought its rivals in the 1999 Formula One Championship. For a substantia savings of weight, the McLaren team has made further modifications to last season's winner: the V10 engine with a cylinder bank angle of 72 degrees.
